Five girls from the Blyth Figure Skating Club skated away with six awards at the annual
Interclub North Figure Skating Competition in Bayfield and Hensall. Congratulations go to,

On Sunday, Feb. 19 the Blyth
Figure Skating Club competed at
the annual InterClub North Figure
Skating Competition.
Ten of the senior skaters entered.
Blyth
Five tables of lost heir were in
play at Blyth Memorial Hall on
Wednesday evening.
Winners were as follows: high
lady, Elaine Snell; high gent, Mary
Walden, playing as a man; low
lady, Isabelle Craig; low gent, John
Blake.
Everyone is welcome again next
Wednesday evening.
Winners of the Monday, Feb. 20
euchre were: high lady, Geraldine
Dale; high man, Ross Brighton;
ladies' lone hands, Alberta Stevens;
men's lone hands, Erma Brighton;
ladies' low, Dorothy Daer; men's

Blyth council briefs
Council opposes bill
The minutes of a special meeting
on Jan. 31 were approved at the
regular session of council Monday
night.
The minutes note that Mr. Mike
Mitchell has been retained as
lawyer for Helen Grubb. Mr.
Mitchell has requested a hearing
between council, Ms Grubb and the
lawyers to hear reasons for her ter-
mination of employment. As well
Ms Grubb would have the opportu-
nity to respond.
Council discussed with the vil-
lage solicitor, John Skinner, what
they believed were reasons for the
firing.

Council endorsed a resolution
from Seaforth, requesting the
provincial government stop its plan
for Bill 163, regarding the disclo-
sure of assets for municipal offi-
cers.

Building Inspector Paul Josling
and Village Foreman John Rinn
were appointed to review the num-
bering of houses in the village.

Animal Control Officer Bob
Trick is attending a raccoon rabies
meeting in Walkerton. The town of
Clinton, for which he is also ACO,
had authorized his attendance. He
was approaching Blyth and Brus-
sels to see if the cost could be split
three ways.
Acting Clerk Julie Wheeler said
she believed the total cost was

Seniors sat down to a delicious pot
luck dinner on Feb. 22 in the Blyth
Memorial Hall.
Following this, the meeting
opened with President John
Hesselwood chairing. 0 Canada
was sung with Graeme McDowell
at the piano.
A sing song followed, led by
Harvey McDowell and Vera
Badley. Happy Birthday was sung
to Elsie Walsh, Vera Hesselwood
and Lawrence Plaetzer for their
February birthdays.
The minutes were read by the
secretary and adopted as read. John
entertained with his good jokes and
read a poem "Life begins at 80".
John reminded everyone about
the visit to Huronlea on April 11 at
2 p.m. Hary McDowell will get a
short program together and the
ladies will bring squares and
cookies for the residents.
The Londesboro Seniors will be
the club's guests on March 22.
There will be a pot luck dinner,
entertainment and cards as well as
lucky draws.

A bylaw passed naming members
of council as voting representatives
on the boards and committees.

Councillor Rori Ritchie will
attend the Central Huron Develop-
ment Meeting in Vanastra on Feb.
21.

Huron County Road Superinten-
dents are offering a first aid and
CPR course to all municipal
employees. As the fire department
is also offering a course the village
didn't feel anyone should need to
register.
During question period, however,
firefighter Dave Lee noted that it
might be an option for any fire-
fighters unable to make the Blyth
course. Council decided this should
be brought to the Fire Area Board
meeting for decision.

Council is declaring April 9-15
as National Wildlife Week.

Mrs. Wheeler will attend the lia-
bility seminar in Harriston on April
13 with Mr. Josling.

Council is supporting a resolu-
tion from Caledon telling the
provincial government to stop
enforcing "mega-dump" legislation
on counties and investigate alterna-
tives.
The program committee took
over and Mary Walden introduced
Rev. Stephen Huntley, minister at
Blyth United Church, to tell about
his ministry to a community in
Woody Point, Newfoundland,
where he spent three years. He
showed slides of the mountains and
bays at Gros Moore National Park.
They have long winters and short
summers which makes the growing
season very short. Moose brought
in from Maine some years ago have
multiplied so much it makes
driving hazardous. The tourist trade
is flourishing now. Music is a very
important part of their culture, as,
of course, is the fishing industry.
Steve sang accompanying
himself on he guitar with some
native Newfoundland songs.

Skaters bring home medals
They were: Christina Black,
Angela Carter, Jennifer Carter, Lee
Ann Haggitt, Amanda Howson,
Ashley Howson, Jamie Lewis, Kim
Richmond, Julie Ritchie, and April
VanAmersfoort. The competition
was hosted by the Clinton Figure
Skating Club but the events were
skated at Bayfield and Hensall
arenas.
The girls competed against 13
other clubs: Bayfield, Brussels,
Clinton, Goderich, Listowel,
Lucknow, Milverton, Mitchell,
Monkton, Seaforth, St. Marys,
Stratford and Wingham.
Congratulations to all our skaters
for a job well done.

Silver in Isolated moves and silver
in Pre Juvenile B ladies; Amanda
Howson - Bronze in Pre Juvenile B
ladies; Ashley Howson - Bronze in
Preliminary A ladies; Lee Ann
