Looking for local heroes
There are so many people out there who do
so much to improve their community.
Now you have a chance to say thanks.
Nominate that special person for the 9th
Annual Citizen Citizenship Awards.
Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from
each of the Blyth and Brussels communities to receive an
award for contribution to the community. If you know
someone you think should be honoured, please fill in the
ballot and send it in. You may attach a longer explanation
of why you think your nominee should win, if you like. If
you have nominated someone before and he or she didn't
win, please feel free to try again.

The Zone C-1 youth dart
tournament was held in Lucknow
Br. 309 on Sunday, Feb. 19. The
Brussels Legion sponsored 17
youths to participate from the area.
Three trophies came home to the
Branch after the day of darts was
completed. Bill Van Beek had a
great day and shot a perfect 180
(something that many darters never
have the chance of doing).
The following were the winners
from the Brussels squad: Tyke
singles girls, Leslie Elliott placed
second and Katie Harrison, fourth;
Tyke singles boys, Dale Martin
placed second; Junior girls singles,
Lisa Coyne placed second; Junior
boys single, Chris Burkholder
placed first and Jeff Elliott, third;
Senior boys singles, Ryan Newman
placed second, Bill Van Beek, third
and James Piluke and Darren Bauer
tied for fourth.
In Tyke doubles, Cassie Bootzin
and Elizabeth Ross placed first by
having a shoot out with fellow
team members Leslie Elliott and
Katie Harrison who had to settle
with a second. The Junior Division
saw Chris Burkholder and Jeff
Elliott teamed up for a second place
finish with Lisa Coyne and Dale
Martin close behind with a third.
The Senior doubles division had
a first place finish by Bill Van
Beek and Tom Haig. Ryan
Newman and James Piluke came in
third.
The Branch will send 12 youth
darters to the District Finals in
Listowel on April.

The 5/6 students of Brussels
Public School are working on a
program called Business Basics.
This program is taught by Keith
Mulvey. Mr. Mulvey is volunteer-
ing his Mondays for four weeks.
He comes to our school from 1
p.m. until 1:40 p.m. This program
is sponsored by Brussels Agromart
Ltd. and the CIBC Bank.
Mr. Mulvey has been teaching
the class how to start a business,
how to fill out a resume correctly
and management.
Every week he gives the students
a business journal and each week
the journal is different and has
another activity for the students to
fill out.
We thank Mr. Mulvey for giving
is his time to teach us.
