Huron board gets environmental award
The Huron County Board of Edu-
cation was presented with an envi-
ronmental award at the Feb. 7
meeting, for the involvement of the
schools in environmental projects.
A representative from The Soci-
ety of Environmental and Energy
Studies Foundation presented the
silver award to the board, saying
the county is a forerunner in envi-

W. RONALD FORAN
W. Ronald Foran of Blyth,
passed away at Clinton Public Hos-
pital on Feb. 14, 1995, in his 49th
year.
Mr. Foran drove truck for many
years for J&H Campbell Transport
Ltd in Blyth.
He was the beloved husband of
June M. Baechler, to whom he had
been married for more than 14
years.
Mr. Foran was the loving father
of Jack and June Holmes of
Seaforth, Karen Foran and Duane
Costain of Blyth, Joe Holmes and
Nikki Oliver of Clinton and the
loved grandfather of six grandchil-
dren.
He is survived by his mother, •,
Isobel (Mrs. Arthur Young) of RR2
Auburn; a sister, Patricia (Mrs.
Gordon Needham) of London and a
brother, Michael Foran of Luc-
know.
Mr. Foran was predeceased by
one son, Robert Foran and his
father, W. Elmer Foran.
Rev. Stephen Huntley officiated
at the service, held on Feb. 17,
1995, at Tasker Chapel of the Beat-
tie-Falconer Funeral Home in
Blyth.
Interment was at Blyth Union
Cemetery.

MABEL E. SMITH
Mabel Elizabeth Smith of Brus-
sels passed away on Saturday, Feb.
18, 1995 at Listowel Memorial
Hospital, in her 90th year.
She was the beloved wife of the
late Allan Smith (1981) and the
loving mother of Harvey and Mari-
on Smith of Cranbrook, Joe and
Bev Smith of RR3 Brussels,
Doreen and Vern Willougby of
RR2 Listowel, Ross and Shirley
Smith of RR3 Brussels, Larry and
Elaine Smith of RR3 Brussels,
Lloyd and Beryl Smith of Brussels,
Fred and Teuni Smith of RR3
Brussels, Carmen and Doreen
Smith of RR2 Walkerton, Grace
and Harry Smith of Ethel, Glenna
and John Seddon of RR2 Walker-
ton, Rodger and Donna Smith of
RR2 Shallow Lake and Fran Gib-
bons of RR1 Hepworth.
Mri. Smith was predeceased by
two infant sons and her son-in-law,
John Gibbons.
She was the loved grandmother
of 50 grandchildren and 58 great
grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at
Melville Presbyterian Church,
Brussels on Feb. 20. Rev. Pervis
officiated.
Spring interment will be at Mt.
Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel.
Pallbearers were Ron Smith,
Brad Smith, David Smith, Greg
Smith, Wayne Smith and Steve
Smith.

RONALD CHARLES GROSS
Ronald Gross of RR1, Londes-
boro passed away Feb. 5, 1995 at
Victoria Hospital in London. He
was 56.
Mr. Gross was the son of the late
William Henry and Ida Gross. On
July 30, 1966 he married the for-
mer Marguerite Scott. Throughout
his life, Mr. Gross was employed as
a farmer.
At the time of his death, Mr.
Gross was serving the community
as deputy-reeve of Hullett, a posi-
tion he had held for four years.
Prior to that he served nine years
on council.
He was a member of Londesboro
United Church.
Besides his wife, those mourning
his loss most deeply are his son and
daughter Larry and Denise Gross of
Londesboro.
He was the loved brother of
Harold and Bernie Gross, RR1,
Auburn, Carmen and Christina
Gross, RR1, Auburn, Clayton and
Alex Gross, St. Catharines, Elva
and John Brown, RR3, Walton and
Gordon and Bernice Gross, RR1,
Auburn.
He was predeceased by his broth-
er Walter.
Funeral services for Mr. Gross
were held at the Tasker Chapel of
the Beattie-Falconer Funeral
Homes, Blyth at 3 p.m. on Feb. 8.
Rev. Paul Ross was the officiating
clergy.
Interment will be held in the
spring at Blyth Union Cemetery.

The board will contact the
Ontario Public School Boards
Association to request lobbying
support to relax licensing require-
ments to permit the use of comput-
er software, by teachers and
support staff, at home for school-
related uses.

Trustees passed a motion in sup-
port of returning one pay cheque,
approximately 5 per cent of the
actual honorarium, on a voluntary
basis.

A motion was passed stating that,
in general, the board supports the
principles set out by the Royal
Commission on Learning with
regards to the size, number and role
of the boards.
The board released enrollment
numbers for area schools, giving
percentages of capacity.
Blyth Public School stands at
76.35 per cent capacity; Brussels
Public School, 95.79 per cent; East
Wawanosh Public School, 86.85
per cent; Grey Central Public
School, 94.65; Hullett Central Pub-
lic School, 99.6 per cent and Wal-
ton Public School, 90.53 per cent.

director, supervisory officers,
human resources administration,
secondary school principals and
OSSTF officers that all regular sec-
ondary schools will begin the
switch to a mainly semestered
timetable in the 1995-96 school
year.
