Blyth Festival welcomes new faces to staff
New in town
Leah Hood and Rick Fedorick have recently been
welcomed to the staff of the Blyth Festival. Ms Hood is the
new director of communications, while Mr. Fedorick is
assistant development co-ordinator.
Blyth Festival has welcomed two
new faces to its staff recently.
Leah Hood has joined the team
as its new director of communica-
tions, while Rick Fedorick is the
assistant development co-ordinator.
A native of Toronto, Ms Hood
spent the previous year working for
a training program where she
taught customer service. A gradu-
ate of the University of Ottawa's
communications and theatre pro-
gram, she has been employed with
the Opera Atelier in Toronto and
the Stratford Festival.
Her duties at Blyth will be mar-
keting and dealing with the media.
Ms Hood says she has been visit-
ing Blyth Festival for years, adding
that the first play she saw was
Quiet in the Land, which kept her
coming back.
"I am now looking forward to
being part of this wonderful Cana-
dian theatre season and to meeting
the people of the Blyth communi-
ty."
Mr. Fedorick is a graduate of
Thunder Bay's Confederation Col-
lege. In addition to seeing the snow
melt and the Maple Leafs winning
the Stanley Cup, he is looking for-
ward to being part of the full Blyth
season. "Working through the win-
ter months is a bit like being in a
vacuum as you toil away but don't
Madill
at improv
Two former East Wawanosh
Public School students are mem-
bers of an improv team from F.E.
Madill Secondary School who hope
to compete in the Canadian Improv
Games in Ottawa.
Micah and Manny Hussey of
East Wawanosh, are two of the
eight-member team who sent a
video of an improv performance to
the selection committee in hopes of
making the cut.
Drama teacher Louanne Alexan-
der says this is the first time the
school has entered the games and
hopes to be among the 24 groups
from across the country to travel to
Ottawa on April 6 for the finals.
"Each of the students are out-
standing talents on their own," she
says, "and the most difficult thing
is to get them co-ordinated."
The other members of the team
are Alesha Moffatt, Erin Whitely,
Julie Carter, Lara Fenton, Mike
Cere and Steve Wray. Kelly
Alexander is the substitute and
Chris Alexander is the manager.
really get to see the results. Being
here to see them is what makes this
exciting," he said.
Mr. Fedorick will be assisting the
development co-ordinator Lynda
Lentz with all areas of fundraising,
particularly in the area of special
events. The most recent of thcsc is
the production of Billy Bishop Goes
to War, appearing Feb. 19.
Prior to coming to . Blyth, Mr.
Fedorick worked for two years at
Lighthouse Festival Theatre in Port
Dover.
