By Rev. Alex McGlIvery
Dungannon
These arc the doldrums of the
year. The winter storms have
arrived and we are more content to
stay in our comfortable homes than
to chance the cold winter wind and
snow. We talk about the winter
blues and dream about the
summer's warmth.

Besides his wife, those mourning
his loss most deeply are his son and
daughter-in-law Larry and Denise
about the place of faith in our lives
and challenges us to put our faith
into action in a radical new way.
The ethics we live by are made
over.
No longer is live and let live
sufficient, but we must care for
strangers and enemies. Goodness is
not the absence of doing wrong, but
the positive doing of good. We are
not judges but the proclaimers of
in cold February, making it a
winter wonderland.'
He said, "He shapes the human
spirit and human person making us
all unique and different in so many
ways."
He asked the children to come
forth and pin a heart with different
artwork on big valentines which
were decorating the church. It
would make them realize what love
does for them and their families.
The children were then given large
pieces of a puzzle. When they
assembled the pieces of land,
ocean, North America etc., they
had a large picture of the world.
Kate Huntley, accompanied by
Stephen Huntley on the guitar,

routine passage of days until
Easter. It is easy to say that this is a
time to get through with as little
pain as possible. So we go into
hibernation. The excitement of
Christmas is passed and Easter is
yet on the horizon. We relax our
spiritual 'muscles' and wait for the
next season to arrive.
Yet in the church, during the
period between Christmas and
Lent, we hear scripture which talks
Kim Ferguson. This skit was
written by Erica Clark and has
since been distributed to every UC
Conference in Canada. Because of
her work, Blyth United Church will
be known all over Canada.

God's loving word. God calls us out
of our winter hibernation, and
drives us out into the world.
This is not a time of dreariness,
but a time that can challenge us and
prepare us for the study and
discipline of Lent.
Let's move out into the world to
let our faith warm the world around
us. The call to discipleship is a call
to live our faith, each day in every
season.
So bundle up your hearts with
prayer, and go into the world.
