Cyclist says

Continued from page 2
ing, says the desire to ride is
"something you are born with. "
Dorothy Seabourne of Sherkston
near Fort Erie who has been riding
for 12 years counters with a smile,
"Some of us are slow bloomers."
Sandra, who might also be con-
sidered one of the slow bloomers,
came to the sport inadvertantly.
While living in London she bought
a moped to get around And thought
it best if she took a defensive riding
course. "I thought I'd be using my
moped, but the instructors put me
on a motorcycle."
Once over the initial apprehen-
sion, 'she was "hooked". Since then
she and Bill have seen Europe and
Eastern Europe from the seats of
their motocycles and are leaving
this April on a six-week tour of
England, which means she will be
missing the annual convention this
July in Showlow, Arizona.
When Motormaids attend con-
vention they must have ridden their
motorcycles there. Different
coloured ribbons are worn to speci-
fy members' designations, such as
life member or new member.
Sandra says what has really
impressed her about Motormaids is
that the members really make the
effort to meet each other. During
' her first visit to one of the organi-
zation's annual conventions Lois
came over to her and took her
under her wing.
Says Lois, "I have never seen a
(new) face at convention that I did-
n't try and meet. "
False alarm
at Huronlea
Brussels firefighters had a busy,
though fortunately not tragic,
beginning to last week.
On Monday night at 11:45 fire-
fighters extinguished a chimney
fire at the home of Don Coleman at
RR5, Brussels. Fire Chief Murray
McArter said there was no damage
to the home.
On Tuesday, a call to Huronlea
turned out to,Pe a false alarm.
Eighty-three per cent of
dropouts had little or no further
education/training while 74 per
cent of graduates were enrolled
in or had completed advanced
education/training.
Preserving the past is as impor-
tant as planning for the future.
With their move to the new hall,
Brussels volunteer firefighters have
been diligently working to gather
information that would creetc a
permanent record of the departmen-
t's history. Fire Chief Murray
McArter says, "We are looking for
anyone with any information,
whether it's a picture or an old story
to tell, to let us know."
Chief McArter says that posters
which have been distributed
throughout the area have failed to
generate the input that the depart-
ment had hoped for.
Anyone with information or
items of interest, such as equipment
or memorabilia is asked to contact
Chief McArter at 887-6325, Don
Crawford at 887-6854, Don Bray at
887-9474 or Ross Somers at 887-
6174.
