THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1995. E. Wawanosh PS host dance The annual meeting of Knox United Church was held on Jan. 29 in the church basement following lunch. Murray Vincent was appointed secretary for the meeting. Rev. Mary Jane Hobden was appointed chairperson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and accepted. Brian Potter head of the board of stewards gave the report and informed the congregation that fixing windows and possibly repairing the roof on the church were the only upcoming projects. The treasurer's report was given by Lorne Campbell. Elections were: John McIntosh and Ruth Gordon to session; board of stewards, Joanne Robinson, Heather McIntosh and Les Shaw; Ross Procter, trustee; Joyce Vincent and Doreen Marks are in charge of choosing ushers and offering stewards; Ruth Gordon, Christian Education Committee. This committee is to be made up of the minister, representative from the session and stewards, church school co-ordinator, representative from Calvin-Brick and Knox United Church Women, lay delegate to Presbytery, one youth group member as well as the four elected members as in the annual report. Lila Procter was elected to the ministry and personnel committee with the lay delegate to Presbytery being Bill Coultes. The church school co-ordinator, Cathy Walker, is retiring in June 1995 and as yet there is nobody to Eighteen members of the Calvin Brick Church gathered at the home of Don and Gloria Dow on Sunday evening, Jan. 29 for their annual meeting. Reverend Mary Jane Hobden called the meeting to order with an opening litany and prayer and chaired the meeting. Ivan Dow was appointed secretary. The financial statement showed that all the obligations had been met. Newly elected officers were: Joan Pederson, trustee; Monica Bleeker, Presbytery delegate; Chris and Donna Palmer, manse committee. Other positions were filled by the retiring members Mabcls Moms met at the home of Mabel Wheeler on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Those attending were Andrea, Mathew and Tyler Stevenson, Joanne, Nicole and Stephanie Robinson, Sherri and Brandon Taylor, Lila and Ben Procter, Linda and Andrew Hess, Annette, Janelle and Mitchell TcRaa, Donna, Trevor and Heidi The Belgrave Seniors ladies bowl each Wednesday at the Wingham Bowling Lanes at 2 p.m. Scores this week were: Marj coultes, 144 and 164; Alice Nicholson, 100 and 120; Eleanor Neil, 73 and 79; Louise Bosman, 166 and 217; Kay McCormick, 138 and 141; Annie Cook, 74 and 113; fill the position. Mary Hunter was nominated to the Manse Committee. The auditors, Elizabeth Procter and Mike Cottrill will remain the same. Mr. Cottrill will be in charge of the mailing list for The Observer. The Country Fayre will be held on Saturday, June 24. Rev. Hobden expressed apprecia- tion to all the people who have helped with the work of the church. Laura Johnston thanked Rev. Jane Hobden for her inspiration and leadership since coming to the Belgrave pastoral charge. The next annual meeting will be Jan. 28, 1996. The meeting was adjourned. The Son-Shine Singers led by Lila Procter and Anne Spivey from Knox United Church sang on Sunday, Jan. 29 during the morning worship service. The two songs they sang were Love the Lord Your God and He is the Way He is the Truth, He is the Life. Members of the choir include Amy Barnes, Lisa Black, Justin Campbell, Christopher Cottrill, Shawn Cottrill, Craig Folkard, Scott Folkard, Michelle Nixon, Kenny McCracken, Holly Pfeiffer, Candace Procter, Carl Procter, Kyle Procter, Nicole Procter, Peggy Procter, Tania Pletch, Harmony Spivey, Nathan Spivey, Nicole Walker and Paul Walker. They are presently preparing for their concert on Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the church. Everyone is welcome to attend. being re-elected to the same office: Jim Taylor and Ivan Down, elders. Roy Dawson, board of stewards; Jessie McGee and Gloria Dow, auditors and head of the music committee; Donald Dow, Sunday School Superintendent. There was some discussion regarding money left to the church in memory of deceased members. It was felt the congregation should respond to he wishes of the families. Chris Palmer expressed a vote of thanks to Rev. Hobden for her leadership and ministry. The meeting closed with prayer. A social half hour followed. Raynard, Sherri and Matthew Shiell, Melanie, Meagan and Ben Scott. The topic discussed was teaching children to be responsible. Refreshments of cookies, coffee and juice were served. Rev. Mary Jane Hobden arrived to visit after conducting Bible Study at the home of George and Doris Michie. New bowlers arc always welcome. Mrs. Ruth Johnston attended the funeral of her cousin Mrs. William Spciran of Listowel on Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Peebles Funeral Home, Atwood. Mrs. Speiran passed away Friday, Jan. 27 at the Listowel Memorial Hospital. The East Wawanosh Public School Home and School Associa- tion is sponsoring a Valentine's Dance for student in Grades 5-8 on Friday, Feb. 10 from 7:30 - 10:30 p.m. at the East Wawanosh Public School. Parents are invited to come to the Home and School meeting on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. to be held in the East Wawanosh Public School Library. The students of Grades 5 - 8 , parents and teachers of East Wawanosh Public School enjoyed a day of skiing at Talisman last month. This was organized by the Home and School Association. The next ski trip is planned for February 25. Congratulations to Ross and Don Procter of Bodmin Ltd. who recently won the BIO Bull Evaluation program's Outstanding Performance Award for the Shorthorn breed. The award was presented to Ross by board member Lloyd Mitchell at the BIO annual meeting. Jim McCallum has returned home after spending 10 days in the Wingham and District Hospital. Friends and neighbours wish him a speedy recovery. Joan and Edward Watson of Blyth and Marilyn and Chester McDonald of Goderich were dinner guests of Ruth Johnston last Wednesday evening. Mr. Jack Higgins was transferred from Wingham and District Hospital to University Hospital in London. Our prayers and thoughts are with him at this time as we wish him a speedy recovery. It is due to the stormy weather which hit the area. Belgrave Minor Hockey players, parents and family and friends boarded a bus and went to see an all-star hockey game in Kitchener last Tuesday night. It was a game involving Ontario Hockey League against a team that was partly Quebec and partly Western (C.H.L.). The CHL beat the OHL team 8-3. After the game there was a number of famous people from TSN (The Sport Network) and also coaches and players of NHL teams signing autographs. These included such people as Bobby On, Bobby Clarke, Ken Chilibech and many more. After the game Marc Alexander was an overnight guest of Jeremy Campbell. On Jan. 28, the Belgrave Minor Hockey hosted a community breakfast at the Belgrave Arena. Over 225 people enjoyed a wonderful meal of sausage, eggs, toast, juice and coffee. The Tykes, Novice and Atom teams are grateful for the help in preparing the food and all those who attended. Matthew Cottrill son of Mike and Donelda Cottrill celebrated his second birthday on Sunday, Feb. 5. Dinner guests at their home were Matthew's grandparents Jim and Irene Lamont as well as a friend Laura Johnston. Due to stormy weather the rest of the family weren't able to attend. Special company Friday evening was Matthew's great-grandmother Winnie Vincent from Blyth. Shawn and Chris Matthew's two big brothers also helped to celebrate his special day. There is a bridal shower for Kate Procter on Friday night, Feb. 10 at the WI Hall.
