THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1995. Bulls end reg. season in 3rd The Blyth Novice team has completed its regular season and will begin playoffs in Kurtzville against Wallace in February. Hopefully, Michelle Cook's broken finger will mend in time for her to join the team for playoffs. In recent games, Blyth hosted Goderich McDonald's "A" team on Jan. 19 and were defeated 8-1. Goderich controlled the game all three periods and kept Blyth scrambling. On Jan. 26, Blyth played another exhibition game against a visiting Belgrave team. Blyth turned the tides and swept the game 10-2. Cole Stewart played a great offensive role and dominated the game with five goals and three assists. Kirk Stewart supplied three assists and one•goal to keep pace with Cole, while the third hot shooter of that line, Micah Loder received credit for two goals and two assists. Rounding out the goal scoring was Neil Salverda and Ryan McClinchey. Eric Jarrett played an excellent game in net and thwarted many .Belgrave rushes, although Nathan Spivey was successful twice with his great high-corner shots. Blyth continued its winning form by defeating Brussels on Jan. 27. Cole Stewart performed with real finesse and finished the game with four goals. Kirk Stewart's nifty stick-handling supplied three assists to Cole's goals, as well, Kirk put in an unassisted goal. Micah Loder's quick burst of speed put him in great position as he took the puck from the neutral zone and weaved in and scored on Brussels' netminder. Michael Bean played a solid game both defensively and offensivey and supplied another goal, and the game ended at an 8-3 score for Blyth. Brandon Blake, Rachel Elliott. and Kyle Stephenson scored for Brussels. The Western Junior C regular season ended Sunday afternoon and the final two playoff positions were determined. The Brussels Bulls finished third and will meet the sixth place Wiarton Wolves in the opening round. Game one in the best of five series is scheduled for Friday night in Brussels at 9. The rest of the playoff dates had yet to be determined at press time. The Bulls finished the regular season on the limp with three key players going down with injuries. Greg Fritz suffered a partial tear of a knee ligament Sunday in a 5-4 loss to Walkerton. He will miss at least the first round of post season action. Ryan Wright has a badly swollen ankle after blocking a shot in Friday night's loss to Wingham. Belgrave Atoms thump Hensall in 7-4 victory On Jan. 21, the Belgrave Atom Houseleague team travelled to Brussels to host Hensall and downed the visitors 7-4. Belgrave finished the first with a one goal lead after Justin Campbell, Chad Cook and Nathan Spivey each notched unassisted goals, while Hensall snuck in two. The second period had Belgrave increase the lead by scoring two more, while holding Hensall to just Continued on page 14 Nate Bender missed both weekend games with a bad hip suffered two weeks ago while playing for the Listowel Cyclones. Wright and Bender are also questionable for Friday's playoff opener. The Mount Forest Patriots finished in first and will receive a bye in the opening round. Hanover clinched second and take on the last place Kincardine Bulldogs. The Dogs did manage a tie Friday night against the Barons. Crusaders' placing uncertain i SALE • SALE • SALE With one weekend of hockey remaining in the WOAA Senior schedule only the fifth place Elora Rocks know their final position in the 13 team league. The Brussels Crusaders lost twice on the week- end and can finish anywhere from sixth to ninth. The top eight teams meet in an AA playoff round with the remaining five playing for the A championship. Brian Campbell, and Tim Fritz scored for Brussels who dominated throughout only to be held winless by the Milverton goaltender. Sunday night the Durham Thundercats broke a 3-3 tie with 1:50 remaining in the second, then added two in the third for a 6-3 win in Brussels. Tim Fritz, Jeff McKee and Steve Fritz scored for Brussels in a game that saw only six minor penalties called. Brussels has two afternoon home games remaining in their schedule, Saturday at 3:30 against Wiarton and Sunday at 2:00 against Lakeshore.
