Bulls end reg. season in 3rd
The Blyth Novice team has
completed its regular season and
will begin playoffs in Kurtzville
against Wallace in February.
Hopefully, Michelle Cook's broken
finger will mend in time for her to
join the team for playoffs.
In recent games, Blyth hosted
Goderich McDonald's "A" team on
Jan. 19 and were defeated 8-1.
Goderich controlled the game all
three periods and kept Blyth
scrambling.
On Jan. 26, Blyth played another
exhibition game against a visiting
Belgrave team. Blyth turned the
tides and swept the game 10-2.
Cole Stewart played a great
offensive role and dominated the
game with five goals and three
assists. Kirk Stewart supplied three
assists and one•goal to keep pace
with Cole, while the third hot
shooter of that line, Micah Loder
received credit for two goals and
two assists.
Rounding out the goal scoring
was Neil Salverda and Ryan
McClinchey.
Eric Jarrett played an excellent
game in net and thwarted many
.Belgrave rushes, although Nathan
Spivey was successful twice with
his great high-corner shots.
Blyth continued its winning form
by defeating Brussels on Jan. 27.
Cole Stewart performed with real
finesse and finished the game with
four goals. Kirk Stewart's nifty
stick-handling supplied three
assists to Cole's goals, as well, Kirk
put in an unassisted goal.
Micah Loder's quick burst of
speed put him in great position as
he took the puck from the neutral
zone and weaved in and scored on
Brussels' netminder.
Michael Bean played a solid
game both defensively and
offensivey and supplied another
goal, and the game ended at an 8-3
score for Blyth.
Brandon Blake, Rachel Elliott.
and Kyle Stephenson scored for
Brussels.
The Western Junior C regular
season ended Sunday afternoon and
the final two playoff positions were
determined. The Brussels Bulls
finished third and will meet the
sixth place Wiarton Wolves in the
opening round. Game one in the
best of five series is scheduled for
Friday night in Brussels at 9. The
rest of the playoff dates had yet to
be determined at press time.
The Bulls finished the regular
season on the limp with three key
players going down with injuries.
Greg Fritz suffered a partial tear of
a knee ligament Sunday in a 5-4
loss to Walkerton. He will miss at
least the first round of post season
action. Ryan Wright has a badly
swollen ankle after blocking a shot
in Friday night's loss to Wingham.
Belgrave Atoms
thump Hensall
in 7-4 victory
On Jan. 21, the Belgrave Atom
Houseleague team travelled to
Brussels to host Hensall and
downed the visitors 7-4.
Belgrave finished the first with a
one goal lead after Justin Campbell,
Chad Cook and Nathan Spivey
each notched unassisted goals,
while Hensall snuck in two.
The second period had Belgrave
increase the lead by scoring two
more, while holding Hensall to just

Nate Bender missed both weekend
games with a bad hip suffered two
weeks ago while playing for the
Listowel Cyclones. Wright and
Bender are also questionable for
Friday's playoff opener.
The Mount Forest Patriots
finished in first and will receive a
bye in the opening round. Hanover
clinched second and take on the last
place Kincardine Bulldogs. The
Dogs did manage a tie Friday night
against the Barons. With the win
Sunday, the Walkerton Blackhawk.5.
claimed home ice advantage in the
opening round against the fifth
place Wingham Ironmen.

The goalie for the Brussels Crusaders unfortunately saw a bit too much action down at his
end of the rink during Sunday's game, after Durham broke a 3-way tie, then tagged on two
more for a 6-3 victory.
