On the income side there was a significant increase in admissions to the fall fair which amounted to $3,095.55, up from $2,033 at the 1993 event. The midway was up by $73 from the 1993 fair, while the food booth showed a decrease in income from $2,732.45 to $1,506.35. Expenses for the food booth, however were also less than in 1993, by $280. Over 1,100 farmers and industry representatives attended over the two days of concurrent topics. The conference is a joint project of the Southwest Soil and Crop Improve- ment Association, Agribusiness and OMAFRA. More than 30 topics kept producers moving through the Ridgetown College facilities during the two days. Topics ranged from Red wheat to no-till, post emergent spray technology and the tomato industry. Audio tapes are available for most topics by contacting Ridge- town College (519) 674-1588. Plans are already underway for the 3rd annual South West Agricultural Conference to be held Jan. 4 and 5. since 1956. Allan Cardiff introduced the spe- cial guests. These included Grey Twp. Reeve Leona Armstrong, East Wawanosh Councillor Jim Hunter and District 8 OAAS representative Ron McKay. In his brief speech to the Society, Mr. McKay reminded the members of the upcoming convention in Toronto and asked for leaders to help with the round table discus- sions. District 8 is leading the dis- cussion on "Animal Health and Wealth". Mr. McKay stressed the impor- tance of getting grant applications in on time and asked for volunteers to help with the security of animals for the Slice of Huron in April. There will be a spring workshop in Seaforth. Queen of the Fair Sharon Godkin reported on her activities during the past year. School awards were presented to Cynthia De Wit and the Majestic WI award went to Christina De Wit. Ralph and Pat Watson were named auditors for the year. Outgoing president, Jeff Cardiff, gave his report and asked for more community support if the fair was going to keep going. Marie Perrie was accepted as a new director. Incoming president Dorothy Cummings noted that there had been discussion on changing the fair to a weekend. Mr. McKay said the Society needed to pick a few tentative dates and forward a letter to the district secretary before the annual meeting. The change would not go into effect until at least 1996, he said.
