Memorial Hall accept a cheque for $2,000 from Kay Hesselwood to be put towards a new
kitchen floor in Memorial Hall. The money was raised this past weekend when the Blyth
Legion Ladies Auxiliary hosted A Tribute to Hank Williams featuring Doug and John McNall.
Four hundred people attended the concert, for which the McNails donated their time. Another
recent addition to Memorial Hall is the new glass at the front of the building, which is inscribed
with Lest We Forget.

Pastor delivers
sermon on love
Blyth United Church service Jan.
29 was the fourth Sunday after
Epiphany with the seasonal colour
green. Greeters were Linda Wilson
and Lois van Vliet. Ushers were
Brenda Brooks, Lloyd Sippel and
Steven and Laurie Sparling. Barb
Bosman was organist.
Rev. Stephen Huntley, opened
with Call to Worship, Prayer of
Approach and words of welcome.
He welcomed back Bill and Susan
Howson who had just arrived back
from the North Island, New
Zealand where they were visiting
their daughter Julie.
Prayer of Confession was said in
unison: If love is patient, why are
we irritable? If love is kind, why
are we hostile? If love is not
jealous or boastful, why do we
flaunt our achievements in the
presence of others?"
The message to the children was
about what they could buy with a
dollar coin, a quarter and a penny.
Rev. Huntley passed some pennies
to the children and to the
congregation. "Love," he said, "is
like a magic penny. If you give it
away, you will get back much
love."
He led the congregation in
singing The Penny Song,
accompanying on the guitar.
The choir anthem was It Is Well
with My Soul, with Barb Bosman
accompanying on the piano.
The Old Testament Lesson was
from Jeremiah 1: 4-10, read by
Bodie Craig. The New Testament
Lesson was from I Corinthians 13:
1-13 and was read by the minister.
Rev. Huntley delivered an
inspiring sermon entitled, "Love
Is..." He based the sermon from I
Corinthians 13, verse 4. "Love is
patient and kind; love is not jealous
or boastful; it is not arrogant or

rude. Love does not insist on its
own way; it is not irritable or
resentful; it does not rejoice at
wrong, but rejoices in the right.
Love bears all things, hopes all
things, endures all things."
Rev. Huntley said, "Love
sometimes is difficult to define; it
just exists and is a powerful
experience that we can't live
without."
Following the sermon the hymn
Come Let Us Sing of a Wonderful
Love was sung.
Minute for Missions was told by
Joan Clark. She told about the
Windsor Downtown Mission. "A
Refuge from Despair". It is the
United Church of Canada Mission
that started over 20 years ago at
Central United Church in down-
town Windsor. For many it's a
needed place, a shelter or tempor-
ary refuge from despair. Thanks to
funding from Mission and Service
Fund, the mission provides the
necessary detour from the rough
roads of life.
Proceeding commissioning and
benediction the choral response,
"Go Now In Peace" concluded the
service.
The beautiful floral tributes were
from the funeral of Harold Knox
and placed in loving memory by
his family.
In Clinton hospital are Ralph
Caldwell and Ruby Pattison. In
