Pi The annual general meeting of Huron Country Playhouse Inc. and Huron Country Playhouse Holding Foundation was held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26 at the Lambton Heritage Museum. In his report, President Jack Riddell reflected on what he called a "most interesting and challenging year." He remarked on the many successes of the Playhouse which have surpassed the achievements of any other year commenting on the new levels of comfort in the seats and professionalism on the stage. Mr. Riddell paid tribute to a special group of ladies known as the Guild. "It is comforting to know that the Guild is always willing and able when called upon for assist- ance," he said. "Their financial The Blyth Festival's board of directors and management are pleased to announce that Assistant General Manager Karen Stewart has been accepted by the Banff Centre School of Management Arts Administration Programme for their upcoming two-week session in February. The nationally recognized arts management training course only accepts 40 students for each of its two annual sessions. Participants apply from across Canada and from various disciplines in the arts: theatre, dance, music, visual arts (galleries), and museums. Ms Stewart was not only accepted for the session but was one of only three applicants to receive a full scholarship to cover her attendance at Banff. Various Canadian corporations support the important work of the Banff Centre's Management Programme by making scholarships available. Karen's scholarship is sponsored by Imperial Oil Limited, a strong supporter of the arts in Canada and The mystical, magical kingdom of Camelot, with its idealistic King Arthur and legendary Knights of the Round Table returns to vivid life with this new production of Lerner and Lowe's famed musical. Camelot will appear at Kitchener's The Centre In The Square for two performances only on Feb. 21 and 22. Starring acclaimed British actor James Warwick this spectacular musical features a lush and romantic score including If Ever I Would Leave You, I Wonder What The King Is Doing Tonight and the irresistible title song Camelot. James Warwick, who plays King Arthur, has had a most distinguished career, having starred in the British Academy Award winning series Partners in Crime and Lillie, both shown on PBS and A & E. Mr. Warwick was in the British National tour of Marlowe's Dr. Faustus. He also portrayed King Arthur in the British tour of most appreciated". He concluded by reiterating how proud he has been to serve as President, for the past two years, of such a healthy theatre organization and wished his successor even greater success. Treasurer Bryan Beattie reported that a record number of tickets were sold and for the first time box office revenues exceeded $1 million. As there were no nominees for the board of directors from the floor, the motion was made to ac- cept the slate of nominees as stated. The 1994/95 board of directors are: Charles Baxter (Dashwood), Mary Burdon (London), Elia Douglas (Grand Bend), Thomas Holloway (London), Tom Kneale (Grand Bend), Robert Mann (Grand Bend), long-time sponsor of the Blyth Festival's Youth Programmes. Ms Stewart has been in the employ of the Festival since 1986, constantly upgrading her skills and accepting more responsibilities in the area of accounting, desk top publishing, and Box Office management. Her intimate know- ledge of all aspects of the theatre's management was most apparent when severe staff cut-backs in late 1993 often meant she was the sole management person in the office. The Festival has many times acknowledged the tremendous job she accomplished during that difficult time in its history and the very positive role she has played in the remarkable turn-around of the theatre during the past year. Upon hearing the news of Ms Stewart's acceptance at Banff, Artistic Director, Janet Amos said "Karen's experience here at Blyth qualifies her to teach the course! Everyone there will definitely benefit from Karen's sharing of her own expertise and wonderful sense of humour". Camelot. Having moved to Los Angeles, Mr. Warwick has recently played guest-starring roles in Civil Wars and Virtual Realities with Shelly Long. Based on T. H. White's The Once and Future King Camelot tells the tale of King Arthur and his quest for truth and righteousness in the world, and the choices he is forced to make between his beloved Queen Guenevere and his favourite knight, Sir Lancelot. Camelot is part of The Centre's Musical Theatre Series. Also offered are Barber of Seville (Feb. 20 and Will Rogers Follies (April 6 and 7). Tickets are available at the box office.
