From the Minister's Study
Pastor --- 'Consider Jesus with great awe'
By Tom Warner
Brussels Mennonite Fellowship
Do you remember those math
textbooks that gave the answers in
the back of the book? I can
remember the teacher being very
watchful as we worked from those
books, that no one looked for the
answers and cheated while doing
in-class work.
Recently I was looking through a
very old book of history. It was
written by a man named Flavius
Josephus. He was born in the year
38 A.D. His writings came later in
his life. He speaks of my personal
favourite topic. Concerning the
early years of the first century he
says, "There was about this time,
Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to
call him a man, for he was a doer of
wonderful works - a teacher of such
men as receive the truth with
pleasure."
Josephus was not a Christian and
had never met Jesus as he was born
after Jesus' death and resurrection.
Yet he spoke of Jesus with great
awe some 65 years after the
resurrection. What caught my eye
On Sunday, Jan. 22 the
congregation at Auburn Missionary
Church heard two sisters, Diane
Baan and Marilyn Campbell, sing
an inspiring hymn Breathe on Me
Breath of God.
Pastor Carne's message was
entitled, "Faith the Foundation"
with scripture from Acts 14: 8-28
and Hebrews 11. He said, in a
building the foundation is essential.
The foundation of faith is the basis
The District Directors of Huron
East District Women's Institute had
a very busy day when their meeting
was held at the home of Jean Wil-
son, Listowel.
Jean read the Home and Country
from cover to cover so as to not
miss any important information.
The message was to make WI a pri-
ority.
New guidelines and forms are
coming soon to the branches enti-
tled, "Criteria for Volunteer
Hours." It notes that too many vol-
unteer hours are covered under
Other. The average volunteer
hours were 46.5 hours per member
per year.
The district bylaws were
reviewed with a few changes alter-
ing them slightly. The voting dele-
gates to district annual in May will
be asked to vote on and pass the
changes. A copy will be sent to the
branches for discussion before May
9.
A Slice of Huron was discussed
and members will again help out on
the days required.
Gorrie branch will hold the 44th
Huron County Rally on Oct. 16 in
the Gorrie Hall with the theme
"Let's communicate". The morning
session will begin at 10 a.m. with
Ruth Bauer as chairperson.
Courtesies for 1996 will come
from Huron West.
Subdivision 11 Board Division
Director Renata Rose had a lot of
information to pass on from the
November provincial board meet-
ing. Members need to pay close
Attention to their district director's
report.
A bus trip is planned from Huron
East to Prelude Bay June 14 at the
Ontario Agricultural Museum in
is that Jesus was a teacher of such
as receive the truth with pleasure.
It is interesting that a Bible verse
sounds similar. It speaks of not
receiving the love of the truth that
we might be saved: (2 Thessalon-
ians 2:10). The outcome of making
either choice, that is to receive the
truth with pleasure or to not receive
the love of the truth, is faith.
On the one hand, to receive the
• truth is to believe in Jesus Christ as
Lord and Savior. From true faith
like this comes true life — often
referred to as salvation or being
saved in the Bible. On the other
hand, to not receive the love of the
truth to be saved is to believe a lie.
2 Thessalonians 2:11 says God as a
result of this, sends a powerful
delusion so that those not receiving
the love of the truth will enter into
also, faith, in the lie.
This lie, a false teacher refers to a
leader in spiritual things, who will,
in fact, lead the vast majority of the
world's inhabitants to believe in
him/her. This leader will do great
miracles and the world will be in
wonder over him/her.
But this leader who is so full of
by which great things are accom-
plished. Faith is not whimsical.
"You cannot afford to be without
faith because you can accomplish
by faith what you would never
accomplish by money or human
wisdom. If you try to face
everything on your own, you will
not be able to withstand the
realities of life. When we know
God and when tragedies strike we
can look back and see all the places
Milton. There will be a barbecue on
the grounds and a viewing of dis-
plays.
Ruth Bauer of Brussels and Betsy
Denham are to attend Workshop
'95 for "Train the Trainer" and
return to put on a workshop for
either district.
Each branch is to have a
fundraiser in June (WI Month) to
raise money for the headquarters
fund. One suggestion was a GST—
Goods, Service and Talent lun-
cheon.
FWIO mentioned the support of
contributors in the Home and
Country and Howick Mutual Insur-
ance Co. of Gorrie was one of those
on the list.
Members were asked to write to
Hon. John Manley or their own MP
asking for their support to have
"Unw aged work" giving recogni-
tion on the 1996 census.

JOHN LAUGHFRY BLACK
John Laughery Black of the third
line of Morris Twp., passed away
peacefully at Wingham and District
Hospital on Friday, Jan. 20, 1995.
He was 84.
John was born at Drumsurn
County, Derry, Ireland, arriving in
Canada with his family in 1926. He
is predeceased by his brother Joe,
his sister Lily and a half-brother
Robert (Bert).
He is survived by his sister Mari-
on of Frankville and two half-
wonder and powerful miracles is
also a liar. And when a person does
not receive the love of the truth to
be saved, God gives a powerful
delusion to have faith in this great
liar.
A delusion in the area of the
mental life is considered a mental
illness.
This delusion in the spiritual area
is definitely clear to see today. Is
this Spiritual Illness?
I started out by remembering the
answers in the back of the book.
Concerning this liar who so many
will place faith in, the answer is in
the back of the Book, and is also
the loser.
No one likes to be tricked into
losing something precious. Yet
right now the great majority of the
world is being tricked by this
liar/loser into losing the most
precious thing we all have. That is
life itself, our eternal souls.
Why not be like the historian,
consider Jesus with great awe. But
go the next step; let Him become
your Lord and Saviour. Be A
Winner!
where God has led us," he said.
Then there is the favour of faith
which is a gift of the Holy Spirit.
Simply trusting is easy when
people know God because God
gives them the ability to simply
trust Him. They can have a song in
their hearts even when going
through deep waters because they
are more than conquerors through
Him who loved them, Pastor Came
said.
