Brussels Mennonite Fellowship
celebrated its 15th anniversary on
Sunday, Jan. 22. The church came
into being 15 years ago as the
dreams of a few families
crystallized. The group started with
five families in the area who had
been travelling further afield to
worship.
In 1981, when the group had
grown to 10 families, it purchased a
house where the church now is,
from Clark Matheson. The house
was renovated in stages and two
main additions have been added.
The chapel was added in 1984 and
a kitchen, minister's study and
gymnasium, were built in 1987.
The congregation now consists of
approximately 50 families from a
mixture of church backgrounds.
The anniversary service included
a message, "Lifted Living" by
Pastor Tom Warner, based on the
text John 12: 20-36, which was
read by Phailop Larprom. The
Cornerstone Group ministered
through song. Joy-Ellen Green-
wood and Andrea Hiller played a
duct on their flutes. Greetings and
reflections were also shared.
Paul Greenwood spoke on behalf
of Church Council. Linda Garland
brought a message for Brian
Laverty, presently from Kitchener,
who served as the church's first
pastor. Bev Brown read a letter
from the next pastor, Doug Zehr,
who is now ministering in Indiana.
Gordon Bauman, who served as an
interim pastor between Doug Zehr's
