Humour seems to go a long way
in the Rolston house and it may just
be the key which has unlocked the
secret to a 50 year marriage.
David and Doran Rolston of RR3
Auburn, who celebrated their gold-
en wedding anniversary on Jan. 13,
believe their union has lasted
because of their belief in the Lord.
"He has helped us work out our
problems and has given us the gift
of hospitality," says Mrs. Rolston.
The couple is known throughout
their community for having an
open door for people in trouble and
for lending a helping hand.
That contribution to their neigh-
bours was remembered during a
gathering at the Missionary Church
in Auburn as many couple rose to
tell their stories.
The Rolstons met at Pike Lake
near Harriston while on dates with
other people, but Mr. Rolston soon
asked his future bride for a date.
• "I asked her if I could throw her a
kiss and she told me I was awful
lazy," he laughs.
Married at the Harriston United
Church manse, Mr. Rolston says
the wedding was "plain and simple.
Doran was plain and I was simple."
The couple laughs together at the
inside joke.
Since their retirement from Bell
Canada (Mrs. Rolston) and Ontario
Hydro and other utility companies
(Mr. Rolston), the pair has kept
very busy with church duties,
including yearly trips to Haiti.
Their daughter, Lynda, spent 15
Soc. to repeat uburn Rolstons celebrate 50 years
years as a missionary in the
Caribbean country.
Lynda and husband Ron Curl
have twin daughters.
The 5011i anniversary celebration
included a banquet on Oct. 21 (to
ensure friends and relatives would-
n't have difficulty driving in snowy
weather) and a dinner at Crossroads
in Elmira on Jan. 13.
Laughter is the golden key
Doran and David Rolston of RR3 Auburn, who recently
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, say humour is
just one of the secrets.
