Brussels Atom Reps capture B championship
The tournament started on
Friday, Jan. 6 when Brussels went
against Clifford. There was no
scoring in the first period.
In the second period Clifford
exploded with the first goal to give
them a 1-0 lead. Clifford struck
again four minutes later to give
them an increasing lead on
Brussels. With time running out
Brussels could not get on the
scoreboard. The game ended with
Clifford beating Brussels 2-0,
which sent Brussels to the B
division.
Brussels returned to Clifford on
Saturday and slaughtered Listowel
10-0. Brian Oldfield opened the

Nolan Krotz then put two more
goals into the Listowel net, with

Oldfield's second and third goals.
Krotz finished off his hat-trick by
scoring his third goal assisted by
Oldfield.
Stephen Todd scored a beautiful
one-timer, received from Chris
Coulter and Phil Affolter, giving
Brussels a 8-0 lead.
Listowel scattered as Affolter
blasted a slap shot from the
blueline into the top corner of the
net. Christopher Blake finished off
the scoring with a goal from on his
knees. Matt McCall recorded his
fourth shut out.
On Sunday, Brussels was
challenged by Elma-Logan for the

pads, after a pass from Nolan
Krotz.
Then Krotz scored two more

first period. The first goal was
assisted by Kerr and Oldfield who
also assisted the second.
Elma-Logan was being held off
by defencemen Marc Fisher,
Affolter, Andy Van Beck and
Houston: With 30 seconds left in
the second period Blake passed to
Todd, who then slid one through
the crease, off the post and into the
net.
Brussels then let up a goal three
minutes into the third period. Elma-
Logan was all over Brussels in the
third. Then Coulter scored from the
corner from a pass from Van Beck.
Elma-Logan retaliated with two
more goals. Brussels managed to
hold their challengers off for the
finish of the game which made the
final score 5-3.
The persons who led this team to
the B Championship are coaches
Steve Coulter, Allan Krotz and
trainer Murray Houston.
Congratulations Brussels Atom
Rep for the B Championship.
Brussels Novices outscore opponents 15- 8 in 3 wins
The Brussels Novices battled
Belgrave to a 3-2 victory at the
Brussels arena in their final game
of 1994.
The Dec. 30 game was off to a
fast start when Belgrave scored 31
seconds into the first period. Brus-
sels retaliated four minutes later
when Jonathon Engel, assisted by
Rachel Elliott, put the puck neatly
into the opposing team's net.
Tyler Campbell of Brussels put
his team up 2-1 at the 3:45 mark of
the second period with an unassist-
ed goal. Minutes later Belgrave
tied the game in an exciting come-
back.
With fans on the edge of their
seats Brussels took the lead once
again in the third. Scott Armstrong
answered the calls from on-lookers
with a quick goal assisted by team-
mate Joel Hemingway.
The Brussels team managed to
preserve the lead for the remaining
minutes of the game and left the ice
with a win.

Brussels, travelled to Hensall

teams skating end to end with
constant action. Good passing,

breakaways made an exciting game
to watch.

The teams traded third period
powerplay goals to close out the
game scoring in the final minutes.
Lucknow cut the lead to 2-1 with
three and a half minutes left on the
game clock but Blyth responded
with an insurance goal with
seconds left in the game. The trio
of Chamney, Rutledge and Peter
Craig once again teamed up with
Rutledge ending the rush with one
of his patented backhand dekes.
The game ended 3-1 in Blyth's
favour as the team came up with
another fine effort, especially the
goaltending duo of Bromley and
deJong.
Action continues with two league
games this week, including a
matchup with Brussels tonight,
Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 9 p.m. in
Brussels.

on Jan. 3, the hometown team faced
a rematch against Belgrave, this
time coming out on the short end.
Brussels took a first period lead
with a combined effort by Arm-
strong and Hemingway, cashing in
on the Armstrong shot.
Belgrave tied the score with
under seven minutes left in the sec-
ond, but the hometowners rebound-
ed quickly. Hemingway popped in
his first goal of the game, assisted
by linemate Armstrong.
The visitors racked up the equal-
izer only 37 seconds later and never
looked back.
They added the winner half way
through the third to take home a 3-
2 victory.
Many Brussels players returned
from the Jan. 6 game in Bayfield
with padded stats.
The match looked quickly out of
hand as the visitors took a'5-0 lead
by the end of the second, but the
challenge was not over.
Elliott notched the only goal of
the first, assisted by Hemingway,
absent and Bryce Wedow did a
great job his first time in net.
Brussels scorers included Lee
Dilworth four, Mark Hunter and
Jeff Linton, who defeated St.
Marys 6-5.
St. Marys travelled to Brussels
on Dec. 27 and another good game
was enjoyed by all. Brussels lost

tried to close the gap with another
goal.
Brussels again went ahead by
two when Bryce Hunt scored with
23 seconds left in the second
period.
McClure scored in the third
with only 2:54 remaining.
Two netters by Hemingway in
the second half of the middle frame
seemed to spark the Brussels squad
as Tyler Campbell added a score
before Hemingway blasted his
third.
The second period goals were
scored at 7:53, 3:40, 1:00 and the
53 second mark.
Assists were earned by Brandon
Blake, Nic Campbell, Robbie Sem-
ple and two by Armstrong.
The Bayfield coach's pep talk
must have had some impact during
the second intermission as the
home team returned to the ice ready
to fight.
Hemingway was able to notch his
fourth of the game before a four
goal assault was undertaken by
Bayfield.
At the two minute mark of the
third, the score stood at 7-4 for
Brussels, but Tyler Campbell was
determined to add some insurance
to the win. He bulged the twine
twice in the final 15 seconds before
period to finish Brussels' scoring
with five goals. Elma-Logan scored
once more for a final score of 5-3,
Brussels.
Hensall came to visit Brussels on
the last day of December to finish
the year on a high note. They
played well and Brussels struggled
all game. Brussels had scoring
chances but failed to find the net.
Hensall defeated Brussels 6-0.
Brussels hosted Stephen Twp. on
Saturday, Jan. 7. The lone goal of
the first period was scored for
Brussels by Brandon Dixon on an
outstanding solo effort. Stephen
Twp. scored three times in the
