Support group forms in Wingham Wingham Depressive and Manic Depressive Self-Help Support Group is a member group of the Depressive and Manic Depressive Association of Ontario (DMDAO). Formed in Wingham in September, the group meets the first Monday of each month at St. Paul's Angli-can Church basement,. Wingham. The January meeting will be held Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. The purpose of the group is for individuals and/or family members affected by any mood disorder to get together to share information, experiences and coping techniques. The hope is to reduce the stigma sometimes attached to mental illnesses by sharing information with the general public. Videos, informal group discussions and occasionally, invited guest speakers will address areas of interest. Confidentiality is stressed and because of the common bond of group members, trust comes. Having shared concerns and problems removes the feeling of isolation one may feel. There is understanding, compassion and caring within the group. This group belongs to everyone and all participants will share in its leadership, says volunteer Jean Kennedy. The DMDAO provides materials and newsletters and other informa- tion that is available at meetings. The Canadian Mental Health Association (Clinton office) is the sponsor, providing staff time, materials and use of office equipment. The group is designing a brochure soon to be placed in doctor and other health offices. For further information contact Jean Kennedy, 357-1914 or CMHA Clinton 482-9311.
