Brussels Livestock report 405 goats on offer, sell to $135 Sales al Brussels livestock for the week ending Dec. 16 were: fed cattle, 417; cows, 287; veal calves, 169; sheep and goats, 405; stockers, 1,810 and pigs, light run. The market at Brussels livestock saw fed steers and heifers selling $2 - $3 higher. Cows sold $ 1 - $2 higher. Thursday saw new crop lambs selling sharply $2 - $3 higher and veal $2 higher. Friday stockers sold steady. There were 247 steers on offer selling from $92 to $97 to the high of $103.25. Eight steers consigned by K & A Beef Farms, Wroxeter, averaging 1,267 lbs. sold for an average of $99.98 with sales to $103.25. Thirty steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan, averaging 1,460 lbs. sold for an average of $95.82 with sales to $99.70. Eighteen steers consigned by Doug Shiell, Wingham, averaging 1,401 lbs. sold for an average of $97.42 with sales to $99.50. Fourteen steers consigned by Earl Fitch, Wroxeter, averaging 1,342 lbs. sold for an average of $92.83 with sales to $98.75. Thirty- one steers consigned by Terry Dalton, Lucknow, averaging 1,170 lbs. sold for the average of $92.21 with sales to $98.25. Twelve steers consigned by Dale and John Taylor Farms, Creemore, averaging 1,448 lbs. sold for an average of $84.83 with sales to $98.25. Twelve steers consigned by Ron Coulter, Creemore, averaging 1,334 lbs. sold for an average of $95.69 with sales to $97. One steer consigned by Niel Edgar, Wingham, weighing, 1,215 lbs. sold for $96.75. Two steers consigned by Michael Kerr, Palmerston, averaging 1,245 lbs. Morris gets composting grant Paul Klopp, MPP Huron announced Dec. 14 a grant of $1,650 to the township of Morris for its home composting program.' The funding, announced on behalf of Environment and Energy Minister Bud Wildman, is made available under the Municipal Reduction/Reuse Program. "I am pleased to announce this grant to Morris," Mr. Klopp said. MP Paul Steckle asks for CFR award applications "The Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Disabled Persons is inviting Canadians with disabilities to apply for the 1995 Centennial Flame Research Award (CFRA)" announced Paul Sleckle, Member of Parliament for Huron-Bruce. "The recipient of the award will have one year in which to use the money to prepare a report focusing on the public achievements of one or more disabled Canadians", explained Mr. Stcckle. The award, which amounts to $2,500 for 1995, will come from the money collected from the Centennial Flame fountain, plus any private and corporate donations made to the CFRA Fund. "Any Canadian citizen with a disability wishing to apply for the Award should submit an outline of his or proposed research project to the Clerk of the Committee on or before March 31," said Mr. Stcckle, "or submit them to my office at 30 Victoria St. N., Goderich, Ontario." The submission should also be accompanied by a letter of support by someone familiar with the applicant.. The Committee will select the recipient to a set of sold for $96.75. Five cows consigned by Arthur Bryce, Wingham, averaging 1,025 lbs. sold for an average of "Projects like this one reduce waste going to landfill. More than 800,000 households in Ontario are now composting. Thanks to such efforts the province can look forward to at least a 50 per cent reduction in the amount of waste going to landfill by the end of this decade," he added. The Municipal Reduction/Reuse Program assists municipalities in the development and management of waste materials as a useful resource that would otherwise be directed to landfill. Ag. rep. retires A former East Wawanosh native has retired after nearly 34 years as an employee with the Ontario Min­ istry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Alan Scott, a son of the late Wal­ ter Scott and his wife Alice, now of Huronlea, Brussels, was raised at. RR1, Belgrave. Mr. Scott has spent the past 17 years as the agricutlural representa­ tive in Perth County. Prior to that he worked in North Simcoe and Lambton Counties as well a sum­ mer in Dufferin.
