B elgraveThe news from Compiled by Helen Stonehouse Phone 887-9487 Mom receives flowers Mabel's Moms finished the 1994 season with a nice visit and a pot luck lunch at the home of Mabel Wheeler. The moms presented Mabel with a bouquet of red and white carnations, a Christmas music cassette and a gift certificate to J.J.'s restaurant to thank her for sharing her home with them and their children. Those present included Rev. Mary Jane Hobden; Joanne Robinson, Nicole and Stephanie; Linda Hess and Andrew; Waneta Leishman and Melissa; Donna Kellington; Alice Yuill and Claren; Andrea Stevenson, Mathew and Tyler; Lila Procter and Ben; Shannon Weitendorf and Erin; Sherry Taylor and Brandon; Janet Koehler and Trevor Raynard. They will be meeting in the new year on Jan. 4. Parish hosts potluck meal Christmas came again to the Institute Hall in Belgrave, when Calvin-Brick church held its annual congregational pot luck supper and Sunday School concert on Friday. Dec. 9. The meal, convened by Norma Moore, was as always much enjoyed. Through the evening, Rev. Mary Jane Hobden, kept things moving smoothly in this her first Christmas as a minister. With supper cleared away it was time for carol singing and the young people's turn to show what they can do. Trooping in were the lively members of the newest church club. The youth group included teens of both Calvin-Brick and Knox Belgrave. They entertained with an amusing skit and later came back to sing Walking in Your Winter Underwear, (words reworked by Mary Jane), all wearing boxer shorts. Gloria Dow's efforts paid off with a good performance of a funny play called "What Does Christmas Mean To You?" Don, Kristi, Tim and Mike came Friday night and spent Saturday visiting friends and along with Doug and Debbie of Egmondville, Faye of London and Wayne of Culross, Andrew and Ben, enjoyed a Christmas party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Procter. Lisa Weitendorf of Belgrave celebrated her sixth birthday with the theme of a "puppy party". Guests included Brigitte Gerrie, Katlin Beard, Dustin Wickers, Greg Beyersbergen, Jenny Kramer, Laura Wilhelm and her sister Erin. Mr. and Mrs. Makas and Alicia of London visited with Mabel Wheeler this past weekend. On Sunday Alicia dropped in on Shannon and Paul Weitendorf and helped Lisa and Erin decorate their Christmas tree. JOBLINK ONTARIO FOCUS GROUPS The jobLink Ontario Program is aimed at establishing the co-ordination of a set of services, supports and programs to help unemployed people prepare for, obtain and sustain employment. The jobLink Ontario Planning Committee for Huron County is hosting focus group meetings to get input from the community on employment service needs and proposed employment resource centres. You can have your say by attending one of the following focus group meetings: 1. Wednesday, January 4, 1995 at the F.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. 2. Christmas Memories A season of joy and hove is our Tvish for you. 50 attend WT Christmas gathering Approximately 50 persons were present when Women’s Institute President Dorothy Coultes welcom­ ed members and friends to the annual Christmas dinner. Following a delicious meal, which was served by the United Church Women, Mrs. Wilma Higgins handed out door prizes to a number of lucky recipients. Dorothy then led in the singing of a number of Christmas carols, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Gladys Van Camp. Mr. Ross Turvey, the guest speaker, was introduced and welcomed by Wilma. He shared slides and gave an interesting account of his trip to Alaska. He was thanked by Mrs. Norma Moore, who presented him with a gift. The evening closed with the singing of Silent Night, Holy Night. The Jan. 17 meeting will be a pot luck meal at 12:15 p.m. and the roll call for the meeting will be 'name the entertainer you like'.
