As the long stretched limo pulled up to the huge office building towering over the Toronto sky line. The chauffeur opened the door with the greatest of ease, trying not to disturb Mr. Edwards. The very rich and well dressed man stepped out of the car. He looked around and was disgusted by the sight. It was Christmas, the show was falling lightly on the sidewalk, stores were bustling with the smells of Christmas cookies and aromas of fresh Christmas cake. There were sounds of laughter and joy as the happy shoppers searched for that last minute gift. There were decorations hung on every lamp post, with families having fun! It was a glorious day and Mr. Edwards hated it with every bone in his body. Ever since the was a child and his family was poor, because when Christmas came he was teased and tormented because he would get very little for Christmas. Every year his anger grew, building up inside him. He only celebrated Christmas because his family wanted him to. He always gave them the best presents money could buy. Yet, every year he would arrange a business meeting on the vile day. It was true, his children did get the best presents. But all the gifts in the world couldn't buy the thing they wanted most. Their father's love. As he sat down at his long corporate desk at the law firm where he worked, he noticed a small note that read: Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas From your secret Santa. He was the only one in the building who objected to this foolishness. He called his secretary who was, prior to the bellow, filing her nails. "Yes, Mr. Edwards", said a whiney southern voice. "Make sure my flight to Calgary and hotel arrangements are in order. Oh, yes remember to get the courier to deliver the presents on Christmas Day not Boxing Day like last year - they didn't stop crying until New Year's eve," said a grumpy Mr. Edwards. "Yes, Mr. Edwards," she mumbled. Mrs. Edwards opened the envelope from her youngest son Curtis that had been placed on her pillow. It red in a messy crayon smeared second grade printing. Plees mom al i wont fore christmis is dady horn fore it. Curt. She wept silently so as not to frighten the children. Everv day sb'' t prayed that he would change, but she know that it was all in vain. The huge Boeing 747 lifted off the ground with the greatest of ease. Mr. Edwards gave a sigh of relief. He had done it! He sat peacefully in his first class arm chair looking over some documents of his upcoming case. Something caught his eye. Sitting there just seats away was a whole family. There was a- mother, a father and two young boys. They were so happy, the mother was holding the father's hand and the boys were smiling from ear to ear. "Thank you so much dear," said his wife. "Daddy, you're the best!" giggled the one boy. "This is the best Christmas present ever, I love Continued on page 15 Clinton Chapel R. David Beattie Lloyd E.
