On Nov. 25, Brussels travelled to

powering team. Good skaters and
passing ability proved too much

Brussels hosted Hensall on Dec.

enjoyed by all. The game was
scoreless for the first two periods
with lots of end to end action.

The smile on Brad Beuermann's
face Saturday night as he rode his
stick down centre ice in Wiarton
after scoring his first goal of the
season said it ail. The Bulls were
winning, having fun doing it and
moving up in the standings at the
same time.
The Bulls rolled over the Wiarton
Wolves 7-2 led by Brian Zabel's
four goals. Beuermann, Peter Ryter
and Brandon Alviano chipped in
with singles. Alviano's goal came
on a rush in the final seconds of the
game after Chad McCallum won
the faceoff to pick up his first
Junior C point. The line of
McCallum, Beuermann and 15-
year-old Mike Brooks had a great
weekend and produced some much
needed offence with forwards Peter
Mulder, Greg Fritz and Kevin Ball
tied up at university writing exams.
Friday night the Bulls won a see

Hanover Barons. The 9-5 win was
the Bulls' third win of the season

Midgets swamp Brussels
By Rusty Blades
The Blyth Midgets played a
single league contest last week as
they hosted Brussels. Blyth's
defence was decimated by injuries
but several forwards-filled in
admirably. The remaining forwards
stiH displayed enough firepower to
swamp their visitors 7-1.
Blyth opened the scoring with
two special team goals late in the
first period. While enjoying a
power play Mike Salverda drilled a
point shot through a maze of
players and into the net, ably
assisted by John Armstrong and
Beg Craig. Before the period
expired Armstrong earned his
second assist on Ryan Chamney's
short-handed goal, which also came
on a shot from the blueline.
Blyth increased their lead to 4-0
early in the period two. Both came
from close range as Chamney, with
help from Chad Haggitt, and then
Chris Stewart on a powerplay, on a
set up from Salverda, did the
damage.
Brussels finally broke the goose
egg four minutes into the third

Murray Kaye also scored twice
while Tim Beyer, Mike Brooks,
Brandon Alviano, Greg McNevan
and Greg Brown scored singles.
Beyer also picked up three assists
playing a strong game on the
blueline.
The two wins boost the Bulls'
record to 8-5-5. Brussels is now
tied for third place with Wingham
and Walkerton, all with 21 points.
Both the Bulls and Ironmen have
four games in hand on the
Blackhawks, and second place is
still up for grabs with Hanover only
three points in front.
Bulls Coach Scott Pettigrew said
special teams were strong in both
victories. "We scored seven power
play goals and only gave up one.
We are moving the puck around
well on the power play and I think
we have two or three of the top
penalty killers in the league."
The Bulls are now off until
Sunday afternoon when they have a
rematch against the Wolves at
2 p.m. in Brussels.

the theatrics. Blyth responded with
the final three goals to ice away the
victory. Brian Marks assisted on
Brad Anderson's goal as Anderson
skated in from the point and
slipped the puck past the embattled
Brussels' goaltender. Christopher
Howson set up Salverda's second
goal of the game and then late in
the game Salverda recorded his
fourth point with an assist on Chad
Haggitt's goal from a scramble at
the edge of the crease.
Although Brussels played with
emotion, they were no match for
Blyth. Michael deJong and Chris
Bromley stopped all but one shot in
their 7-1 backstopping of another
Midget win.
