LondesboroThe news from Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-4360 Burns UCW enjoys dinner On Tuesday, Dec. 6, 13 members of the Burns UCW met at the Londesboro United Church for their Christmas meeting. A delicious turkey dinner was served at 1 p.m. by Linda Horbanuik and Marjorie Anderson. After the dinner Hazel Reid opened the meeting with a reading. Carols were sung accompanied by Beth Knox on the piano. "Christmas Fever" was read by Beryl Reid. Readings "The Christmas Mouse" and "The Extra Stocking" were read by Gloria McEwing and Josephine Londesboro UCW sings carols The Christmas meeting of Londesboro UCW was held on Monday, Dec. 5. They opened the meeting with a pot luck dinner at 6:30 p.m. then enjoyed carol singing. There was a Christmas contest. Joan Whyte introduced the guest speaker, Rev. Cheryl Anne Stadelbauer-Sampa of Egmond- ville. Kitty MacGregor thanked her and gave her a gift. Christmas in Killarney and several other Christmas songs were sung by Jennifer, Kerri and Marsha Szusz. Brenda read a nativity story. Roll call was answered with a Bible verse, and minutes of the last meeting were read. A poinsettia was purchased for the church. A report was given on the Bums table at Seaforth Craft show. All signed Christmas cards for Agnes Leiper "Huronlea" Brussels and Gordon MacGregor, the Manor, Seaforth. Renee Snell closed the meeting with the Mizpah Benediction. Members exchanged Christmas gifts. Marjorie MacDougall of Auburn played Star of the East on the piano. The worship service was held with Ruth Ross, Florence Snell and Helen Lee taking part. Members sang O Come, O Come Emmanuel. Shuffleboard Shuffleboard was held on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Hullett Central School. Winners were: high lady, Betty Dale and high man, Lloyd Dale. Before we can experience the fullness of Christmas joy, we will have to recognize our need for God's mercy, forgiveness and recon­ ciliation. It was very well done and enjoyed by all. Ann Vincent welcomed all and the children came in with candles WI gives to CAS The Women's Institute Christmas meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15 beginning with a pot luck dinner at 12 noon. Roll call will be money or gift for the Children's Aid. There will be a gift exchange of $2 value if interested. Hostesses will be Erma Cartwright, Maureen Bean, Marion Haggitt and Tena Empey. The speaker will be Pastor Came. The executive will be in charge of the program. Service time set Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Dec. 11 were Helen Dale and Josephine MacGregor. This was the White Gift Service by the Sunday School. Leader was Shannon Scott. They put on a skit, "What does Christmas mean to you?" White Gifts were presented. Huronview Fellowship is on Thursday, Dec. 15 from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Choir members are reminded of practice Sunday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. Christmas Day Service is at Knox United Church, Auburn at 10 a.m. There will be no Christmas Day Service at Londesboro Church. Christmas Eve Service at Londes­ boro is at 7:30 p.m. and sang This Little Light of Mine. The scripture lessons were read by Mandy Dunbar, and Bernice Gross was narrator. Several carols were sung after each scripture reading. The offering was received by Michael Bean and Justin Chamney and the response sung. The singing of the amen's concluded the service. There was lunch and a social time down in the basement following the service. Christmas Eve Service will be observed in Londesboro United Church at 7:30 p.m. A Christmas Day service will be celebrated in Knox United Church at 10 a.m., Auburn. Winners were: high man, Benji Hakkers; low man, Suzanne Schultz (playing as a man); high lady, Hazel Watkins; low lady, Fran? Clark; novelty prize, Marie Bromley. That will be the last until the Tuesday after New Year's Day. Cookies and beverage will be served Dec. 14.
