PAGE 27 Doon celebrates Christmas A Grand tale for Christmas Paul Ledoux's stage adaptation of The Secret Garden, one of the most famous children's books of all time, comes to The Grand just in time for the holiday season. Because of popular demand, the performance schedule of The Secret Garden has already been extended! The show now runs from Nov. 29 until Dec. 24. Since its publication in 1911, Frances Hodgson Burnett's story of the orphaned Mary Lennox and her discovery of the hidden garden, has captured the hearts of readers of all ages. This stage adaptation of the perennial favourite is sure to delight all who see it! Eleven-year-old Maggie Blake, who portrayed Helen Keller in last season's production of The Miracle Worker, plays Mary. Twelve-year- old Aidan De Salaiz, who will be remembered by Grand audiences as Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol, is Colin, the cousin Mary helps get well, aided by the young gardener, Dickon, who has a special rapport with the natural world. Dickson is being played by Eric Wolfe, who also appeared in A Christmas Carol and returns later this season in Broadway Bound. Colin's father, Lord Archibald Craven, is played by The Grand’s Artistic Associate Charlie Tomlinson. Also on the staff at Misselthwaitc Manor, the Yorkshire estate of the Cravens, are former Grand Artistic Director Bernard Hopkins as gardener Ben Weatherstaff, Brigitte Robinson as housekeeper Mrs. Medlock, and Kate Hennig as Dickon's sister, the chambermaid Martha. The Secret Garden previews Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1 and opens Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. It runs until Dec. 24 with performances Monday through Saturday evenings with a special 7:30 p.m. Family Curtain and Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2 p.m. The Secret Garden closes with a Christmas Eve matinee, Saturday, Dec. 24 at 2 EUCHRE TOURNAMENT Friday, November 25,1994 BLYTH MEMORIAL HALL Registration from 7 - 8 p.m. Admission $5.00 per person Sponsored by the BLYTH LIONS CLUB p.m. Ticket prices range from $20 to $49. Tickets for children under 15 years of age are half-price. Subject to availability, rush seats can be purchased for $14 for Monday through Thursday evening performances and Saturday matinees, and for $20 for Friday and Saturday evenings. Rush seats are available in person only two hours prior to curtain time on the day of the performance. Students and seniors with identification may purchase rush tickets from 10 a.m. on the day of performance. A limited number of pay-what- you-can tickets will be available for the Christmas Eve matinee. The village is decked out in its Christmas finery as Doon Heritage Crossroads prepares to celebrate the holiday season with Country Christmas on Sundays, Dec. 4, 11 and 18 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The cedar garlands have been hung with care and the precious ornaments carefully unwrapped and placed on the Christmas trees, ready for that very special day. At the turn of the century, Christmas was indeed a special time - concerts and pageants in the schools and churches, families bundling into their horse-drawn sleighs to visit friends and relatives and the celebration of family traditions passed down over the years. The threads of various ethnic traditions are woven together at Doon, as the decorations and food in each of the homes reflect these family and ethnic traditions.
