Area Beavers to attend Jamboree at SkyDome By April Bromley For several local boys, who are members of the Brussels and Blyth Beavers, Nov. 26 can't possibly come fast enough. On this date the boys and their leaders will join 10,000 Ontario Beavers for a Sky Dome sleepover. The anticipation for the trip was evident on the young faces at recent meetings. The SkyDome, home of the World Champion Toronto Blue- Jays, will be accommodating Beavers from all regions in the province. According to Scouts Canada some are flying in, and oth ers are coming by trains, or char tered busses. One can bet all 10,000 of these chipper little guys are ready for a good time. "It's an experience they'll never forget. We're all excited about it," says Bubbles Lynda Shaw of the Brussels Beavers. Scouts Canada officials say that the planning committee for the sleepover has been working on the logistics of arrivals and departures, mealtimes, evening programs, and sleeping arrangements for almost two years now. Most young Beavers should be ecstatic with the preparations that have been made. Scouts Canada says that McDonald's will accom modate breakfast, lunch, and din ner. Entertainment will feature children's favorites such as: Eric Nagler, Jake Pearce, Lenny Graff, and Ronno and friends. The Jum- botron will show Fitness Breaks with television's Body Break hosts Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod. A message from fellow Beavers in British Columbia will also be shown on the giant screen. And the youngsters will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the Beaver program to Scouting with a giant birthday bash Perhaps, the most exciting part of gathering is the sleeping arrange ments. Scouts Canada is ensuring that each Beaver will have a spot on the turf to sleep; the same turf where many little boys all over this country dream of one day laying foot. The SkyDome, a place of many memories and fantastic feats, will be their home for the two-day event. It's a good thing there is so much space to be offered because the boys will need it to build the world's largest Beaver dam. According to a Scouts Canada source tne aam win De maae wim . recycled cardboard rolls, and is one of the main activities planned. Program co-ordinators are presently finalizing the details on 150 activities. They say organiza tions such as: the Canadian Wildlife Federation, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Canadian Olympic Association will be making presentations, in addi tion to several others. The seven Beavers attending from the Brussels organization will be supervised by Rainbow Leader Sandra Josling and Bubbles Lynda Shaw. Members of the Blyth Beavers, 12 boys in all, will be supervised by Leaders Linda Pease, Nancy Hakkers and KeeoJohn Storey, along with five parents. In order to fund the trip the boys sold maple syrup. The Brussels boys are being sponsored by the Brussels Lions Club, while the Blyth Beavers sold maple syrup to raise the necessary funds for the trip.
