Zurich takes Blyth Tykes
)
Brussels Bulls fit to be tied
The Bly th Tykes are developing
into better hockey players with
every game they play.
At home, on Saturday afternoon,
they challenged Zurich in an
evenly-matched contest.
Zurich opened the game with a
quick goal in the first shift,
however Blyth quickly tied the
game and the see-saw action began.
Blyth pulled ahead by one before
Zurich came storming back and put
the home team down by two.
Blyth persevered and succeeded
to tie the game again but ran out of
time as Zurich scored the winning
goal in the last three minutes and
recorded the 6-5 victory.

Midgets earn 4-1 victory
By Rusty Blades
The Blyth Midgets played a
single league game last week as
they entertained Milverton at home
on Nov. 14. Once again the offence
struggled but a third period rally
gave the hometowners a 4-1
victory.
Jason Rutledge and Ryan
Chamney assisted on the only first
period goal as Ben Boomer' Craig
blasted one through from the point,
while Blyth was enjoying a two-
man powerplay.
After a scoreless second stanza
Milverton counted a powerplay
goal of their oen, one minute into
the third to even the score.
It was all Blyth the rest of the
way as Christopher Howson sent
Rutledge in alone on a breakaway
two minutes later. Rutledge made it
look easy as he dazzled the
onlookers with a series of dekes
before slipping the puck into the
open comer of the net.
With five and a half minutes
remaining in the game Chad
Haggitt won a face-off deep in the
Milverton zone and Mike Salverda
gave Blyth a 3-1 lead with a
slapper from the high slot.
Just over one minute later Blyth
notched their final goal of the game
while enjoying the luxury of yet
another manpower advantage.
Howson did the spade work in the
comer to set up Chamney’s point
shot. The goalie got a glove on the
puck but he watched as it bounced
out and into the net.
entertained the fans with some
great saves, while Brett Bean was
the offensive spark plug as he
performed the hat-trick.
Darcey Cook and Luke Anderson
displayed their stick-handling and
skating abilities as they capitalized
on their rushes into opposition
territory by tallying a goal each.
Josh Albrechtas and Nicholas
Packer made some key defensive
plays to um the action away from
their end zone.
Kendall Whitfield, Blake Hessel-
wood, Sandy Hay, Christopher
Bernard and Tony Bean contributed
with pass plays to help offensively

Blyth finished up strong and
recorded another win, this time by
a 4-1 score.
Action heats up this week as the
Midgets participate in the Wingham
Regional Silver Stick Tournament.
Blyth opens tonight, Wednesday,
Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. in Wingham
against Mildmay. Their round
robin tourney schedule continues
on Saturday in Belmore as they
face Tavistock at 8 a.m. and then
tangle with Drayton at 2:15 p.m.

The battle for second place in the
Western Junior 'C' standings has
become a four team race with the
Brussels Bulls right in the thick of
it. The Bulls picked up two points
on the weekend tying Walkerton
Friday night 2-2 and Wingham
Sunday 3-3.
The Bulls now have a record of
6-4-3, good for 15 points.
Wingham is in second with 16
points, Hanover also has 15 and
Walkerton has 14, but has played
three more games than the other
three teams.
Friday night the Bulls went to
Walkerton to try to avenge a 5 - 4
loss a week ago to the Blackhawks.
While the Bulls carried the bulk of
the play, some strong netminding
and poor special teams play kept
this, one a low scoring affair. Bulls'
Captain Greg McNevan fired a
shorthanded goal to match one
scoring by Walkerton after

snowmobiling
safety program
A snowmobile safety program
entitled Steer Clear is being
launched throughout Canada this
winter. It is sponsored by Molson
Breweries and its main objective is
to encourage safe snowmobiling
practices.
A press release from Molson
Breweries says Steer Clear,
endorsed by the Ontario Federation
of Snowmobiling Clubs (OFSC), is
designed to educate the public on
the importance of safe snowmobil
ing and of using alcohol responsi
bly when participating in
recreational winter activities.
The Steer Clear program pro
vides educational and promotional
materials to snowmobiling clubs,
associations and consumers across
Canada.
To help spread out this material
Shawn Jennings, an experienced
racer, will be traveling to snowmo
bile events and races around the
province. "Snowmobile racing pro
vides an excellent opportunity to
communicate the Molson Steer
Clear message and educate the pub
lic on snowmobile safety," says Mr.
Jennings.
Molson Breweries reminds all
snowmobilers that, "Awareness of
personal responsibility, together
with education and enforcement,
ensures that snowmobiling is a fun
and safe family sport."

Peter Ryter put the Bulls ahead
2-1 in the third period with a quick
snapshot but Walkerton tied the
game with less than two minutes to
play. The Bulls pressed for the
winner in the dying seconds but
could not find the net.
Sunday afternoon the Bulls
locked up with Wingham for the
third time this season and it was
another nail biter. The Bulls fell
behind 2-0 in the first period but
got one back with three seconds left
when Zack Smith potted his third
of the season.
In the second, the two teams
traded goals with Brian Zabel firing
a powerplay goal. The Bulls got the
equalizer in the third when Greg
McNevan added another powerplay
goal. Brussels had two chances
with 15 seconds left in the game to
score the winner but missed by
inches.
Assistant Coach Mike Henry
took one for the team when he was
