Pumpkinfest, annual event
The Auburn Horticultural Society
meeting was held in the basement
of Knox United Church on Monday
evening, Nov. 14. O Canada was
sung with Marjorie McDougall as
pianist.
The minutes were read by Ann
Vincent and the treasurer's report
was given by Ell Lapp. Ann gave a
little history on the Nativity Scene
which was made 16 years ago. It
has been made by the Children's
Workshop in Auburn and was
repainted in 1990 and will be
displayed again this year.
It was decided that since
Pumpkinfest was such a success
this year, it would be an annual fall
event.
Regina Campbell spoke on
behalf of the Lions Club on the
C. Amoral
The Aubum Silver Tops met at
the Community Hall Wednesday,
Nov. 16 at 12 noon. Grace was
President Dorothy Grange spoke
on others who are ill and it is hoped
that they have a speedy recovery.
After dinner Ruth Jardin
sung and a delicious pot luck
dinner was enjoyed.
Everyone was shocked by the
sudden death of Tom Haggitt. Mr.

Participants in the Legion's Remembrance Day essay
writing contest received their awards on Nov. 11. Winners
were from back left, Tammy Walker of Blyth PS,
Intermediate 3rd and Pamela Elliott, Hullett PS, Inter. 1st.
Second place finisher Joyce Beacom of Hullett PS was
absent. In front, from left, Mellissa Snell, Junior 1st;

Michelle Klassen. Jr. 3rd, all of Hullett PS.
THOMAS E. HAGGITT
Thomas E. Haggitt of King Street
in Aubum passed away al Clinton
Public Hospital on Nov. 15, 1994.
Mr. Haggitt was bom in Blyth on
Aug. 16, 1915 to the late Edward
and Rosella (Carrick) Haggitt.
He farmed in the Auburn area
before becoming employed by the
Huron County Highway Depart
ment. He was a member of Knox
United Church, Aubum.
He was the beloved husband of
Marion L. Beadle, the loving father
of George and Mary Haggitt,
Zurich; Ken and Jane Haggitt,
Huron Park and Steve Haggitt,
Aubum and the loved grandfather
of eight grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Haggitt was predeceased by
one brother, Joseph Haggitt.
Rev. Paul Ross officiated at the
service on Nov. 17, at Tasker
Chapel of the Beattie-Falconer
Funeral Homes, Blyth.
A graveside service followed at
Ball's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard, Greg,
Pat, Mike and Paul Haggitt and
Kevin Jeffrey.

Jean Plaetzer introduced Deanna
Snell and Linda Wilson from
Christmas and Country. They had a
Norfolk pine tree which can be kept
in the house in winter and they
decorated it with raffia bows, pods,
birds, nests, berries and cones.
They decorated a cookie jar
centrepiece with a variety of
greens, holly, red and white
carnations and curly willow. They
also made a centrepiece in a lovely
bowl with greens, snapdragons,
spear grass and star of Bethlehem.

Euchre
There were five tables in play at
the Aubum euchre party held at the
Community Hall on Tuesday
evening, Nov. 15. Prizes went to:
high lady, Effie McCall; low lady,
Ruth Schiell; high man, Ian
Andrews; low man, Grace
Cartwright (playing as a man);
novelty prize, David Campbell.
Euchre is played every Tuesday
evening.

They made a large wreath with
bow, gold, rope and other added
articles and showed how to dress
up a poinsettia and also a picture
spray. The new colour for this year
is amber, they said.
Deanna thanked the group for
having them and invited all to their
Open House on the weekend.
Carol McDowell thanked them
for their demonstrations. They are
talented in their field of work.
Carol Daer favoured with several
piano instrumentals. Carol
McDowell gave a reading. Jean
Plaetzer had several contests as
prizes given. Grace was sung.
Lunch was served by the hostesses
Mildred Lawlor, Teresa Roetci-
soender and Eunice Arthur and a
social time enjoyed.
Amoral, RN of Clinton. She is the
managing director of Goderich
Place, a new retirement residence
in Goderich. Mrs. Amoral first
treated us to several songs, singing
and playing the guitar. Amazing
Grace was exceptionally lovely
sung to a different tune.
She showed slides and spoke
about Goderich Place. It is quite a
large building made up of private
and semi-private rooms all the way
to a two bedroom executive suite.
Each suite has a bathroom and all
rooms seem to be spacious. Meals
are all provided and there is a large
furnished dining room.
Nursing care is provided if
necessary.
Slides were shown of an elderly
gentleman who is recovering from
hip replacement surgery. He looked
quite happy, walking with his

R.Wareham speaks to WI
The Auburn Women's Institute
meeting was held at the
Community Hall on Friday, Nov.
18. O Canada and the ode were
sung with Marjorie McDougall as
pianist. Mary Stewart Collect was
repeated in unison.
President Jean Plaetzer opened
the meeting with a poem "The Joys
of Life". The minutes were read by
Kay Lapp and also the correspon
dence. The treasurer's report was
given by Tena Empey. It was
decided to erect another WI sign.
Jean gave an excellent report of the
Convention held at Mount Brydges.
Erma Cartwright convenor of
Education and Cultural Activities
introduced the guest speaker Ralph
Wareham of Clinton, who gave
new ways on education, different
classes and computer programs. He
then answered questions.
Ruth Jardin thanked him for his
update on education.
I would like to thank the ratepayers
of Hullett for returning
me by acclamation.

The roll call was answered by
"Name a Canadian author and a
book they had written."
The Queen and Grace were sung
and lunch was served by hostesses,
Violet Dumin and Evelyn Flett.
Evelyn had two contests, with
Mildred Lawlor and Martha Daer
winning prizes. Mildred also
received a prize for closest
wedding anniversary which was on
that day.
A social time was enjoyed.
