Huronlea residents enjoy busy October By Mary Gibbings Program Director and Volunteer Co-ordinator We were very lucky to have a beautiful month of October this year. Residents at Huronlea enjoyed every day and many days they took the advantage to go out for a walk. The scheduled programs like News and Views, Caring and Sharing, Happy Wanderers were held regularly. These are programs that residents can participate in if they wish to. We are pleased to have the Salvation Army visitors at the home for weekly visitation on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Every Monday afternoon sing-a­ long is held in the chapel at 2:45 p.m. Oct. 5 was Octoberfest Luncheon with sausage on a bun, coleslaw, pickles and pumpkin and apple pies on the menu. Everyone ale hardy. It was a pleasure to have residents from Huronview visit Huronlea for the luncheon. Special music was provided by Lome McKenzie, who played old favour­ ites that everyone enjoyed. On Thursday afternoon a memor- Friendship Club marks season The November meeting of the Friendship Club took the form of an early Christmas party. Twenty members enjoyed a delicious and bountiful dinner at 12:30 p.m. at Maple Villa on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Ethel Brewer and Mary Lowe were in charge of the afternoon entertainment and Ethel commenced by reading the scripture dealing with the birth of Jesus, Luke 2, verses 1-20. Many members won several prizes with the door prizes being awarded to: Ruby Steiss, Eileen Shirton, Mary Davidson, Martha Logan, Doris Hooper and Ethel Brewer. Dorothy Dennison was the winner of guessing the number of articles on a tray. Eluned McNair won for the lucky plate. Martha Logan won the travelling prize. Velma Jacklin won for guessing the number of peppermints in a jar. Christmas carols were sung accompanied by Alf Sutton at the piano. Prior to each carol Ethel read the origin of each song. Euchre followed with winners being: high man, Kate Wilson; high lady, Adah Smith; low man, Ethel Sutton; low lady, Eileen Shirton; most zeros, Mary Lowe. The distribution of gifts followed with two gifts being left. These were auctioned off realizing a small amount of money for the club. Everyone then participated in playing "What If' and the fun and games afternoon came to a close. There will be no December meeting. ial service was held in the chapel al held on Oct. 11. The Londesboro 2 p.m. Rev Cecil Charles from Mildmay conducted the service. Betty Campbell played the organ. Staff participated in a few words for each of the residents who had died. Happy Gang Seniors Club provided the entertainment and the goodies. The Residents' Council meeting was held on Oct. 11 in the morning. Oct. 12 was a very busy day as the JBS Clothing Company was at Huronlea. Residents had a chanceThe monthly birthday party was to purchase a new outfit, slacks, shirt or whatever they wished. It is with much appreciation to Rhoda Stoll for coming in to Huronlea on the second and third Thursday to the Activity Room to do baking with the residents. A big thank you to the Steffler's, Don Dunbar, Phyllis Mitchell, Brussels Hymn Sing and all the other volunteers for coming to the home to put on a program in the afternoons. Also to the other volunteers who assist. Every Friday is Bingo Time at 2 p.m. The Sunday afternoon church services at 2 p.m. in the month of October were led by Rev. C. McMillan United Church, Brussels; Rev. J. Vaudry, Presbyterian, Wingham; Melville Presbyterian Skaters earn The Brussels Figure Skating Club held its annual fundraising skateathon this past Saturday. The top eight people getting pledges were: Andrew Procter, $89; Tanya Franken, $75; Sarah McArter, $74.10; Tyler Jutzi, $71.50; Christopher Jutzi, $71; Ryan Jutzi, $71; Melissa Badley, $65 and Jimmy Franken, $61.50. Proceeds from the event will go towards the club's operating costs. Our mistake In last week's election coverage one of the acclaimed Brussels PUC Commissioners was incorrectly identified. The names should have been Dave Hastings and Henry Exel. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
