AuburnThe news from Compiled by Mildred Lawlor Phone 526-7589 WI to discuss education The Auburn Women's Institute meeting will be held at the Community Hall on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Erma Cartwright will be in charge of the topic of Education and Cultural Activities. Council accepts tender After calling for lenders at a spe­ cial meeting held on Oct. 18, Hul­ lett council accepted the tender submitted by McGavin Farm Sup­ ply, at the Nov. 1 meeting, for an industrial loader tractor. The ten­ dered price was $52,439.88. Snow removal personnel were hired by council for various areas of the township. Bill Roy will blow snow on Sideroad 20/21, Cone. 9 at a cost of $27 per hour and Donald Nott will clear the streets of Alma for $35 per hour. East Wawanosh Twp. will be engaged to snowplow and sand the streets of Auburn. Council agreed to waive the rental fee for Londesboro Hall for the parent support group from Hul­ lett Central Public School, for their fundraising event. Several bylaws were given third and final reading at both the Nov. 1 meeting and a special session held on Oct. 24. Don Pullen was appointed as the township representative on the Central Huron Mobility Service board. The reeve and clerk were autho­ rized to enter into an agreement with the Provincial government with respect to a shared goal to pro­ vide sound investment for infras­ tructure. The objective will be to promote a competitive and produc­ tive economy, generate valuable long and short-term employment and accelerate economic recovery. WI views unusual vegetables The November meeting of Londesboro WI was held at the Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. The Opening Ode, O Canada and Mary Stewart Collect opened the meeting. President Lois Elliott gave a reading on time for reaching out. Roll call was bring an item for the Day Centre Bazaar. Leita Wiley showed purple potatoes and curling squash. Reta and Lois showed what they made at the workshop. Reta read the minutes of the October meeting. She also gave the financial report. A donation was made for Remembrance Day. A donation of $200 will be given to Hullett Playground Committee. The president gave a report of the convention at Mount Brydges in October. Renee Snell led the programme on war amputees. She showed a video on child amputees learning to ski. Ella Flood had a reading on fine china. Grace was sung. Lunch wa served by Lois Elliott and Marjorie Anderson. 7 women attend stained glass workshop Seven Auburn ladies attended the Stained Glass Window Sweatshirt course given at Ontario Street United Church, Clinton. This was sponsored through the Auburn Women's Institute on Monday, Nov. 7. Everyone was pleased with their project. 28 enjoy euchre Eight tables were in play at the euchre party held at the Commun­ ity Hall on Tuesday evening, Nov. 7. High lady was Mildred Lawlor, low lady was Grace Cartwright. High man was Tom Hallam and low man was Benjie Hakkers. The novelty prize went to Ruth Jardin. Euchre is played every Tuesday evening.
