United pastor talks to children about disguises
Greeters at Blyth United Church,
Nov. 6 were Joann MacDonald and
Lenora Davidson. Barb Bosman
was organist. She played a musical
prelude while the worshippers were
being seated by the ushers, the
Caldwell family, Les, Ian, Tim and
Mark.
Rev. Stephen Huntley, minister,
opened with call to worship then
the hymn, Joyful, Joyful We Adore
Thee, was sung followed by Prayer

"love your brother", "do good to
those that hate you", "Thou shalt
not kill", as reasoning for their
actions.
After WWII ended help was
needed to rebuild homes devastated
during the war. Carpenters and
labourers volunteered, as did some
nurses. By this time, help was
extended not only for Mennonites
in need, but to people from other
denominations as well.
Awareness of needs in parts of
the world other than Europe
became apparent. People were
needed to help establish
agricultural programs, to teach in
schools, to work in hospitals, to
work in other various medical
area?.
During the 60s the Vietnam War
instigated the draft boards again.
This time, not only were Menno
nites conscientious objectors, but
many other non-Mennonites were
as well. Due to the historical record
of the peace stance and the record
of successful alternate service
programs, draft boards accepted
MCC programs. If one could prove
he was a conscientious objector
who was working on a MCC
project, it qualified as alternate
service.
the guitar.
For the children's message Rev.
Huntley asked them what some
special times were when they got
dressed up. They replied, church,
nighttime, dinner.
He was thinking of trick or
treating and asked them how they
felt to be dressed up, feeling like
they were someone else.
"Regardless of how we feel or
how we are dressed up, God still
sees us as the same and loves us for
the way we are.
Evelyn Caldwell was then in
charge of junior congregation.

Students hear of
careers at Madill
On Nov. 1 the Grades 7 and 8s
went to F.E. Madill for the Career
Fair. There were many different
exhibits to go to which we thought
were very interesting. Some of the
exhibits that were there were the
Police Department, CKNX,
Wingham Hospital, Health Care,
Banking, and Veterinarian.
The Grades 7s and 8s had the
opportunity to go around asking
questions about what education was
necessary for the different careers
and how much money you could
earn when you first start out. It was
a worthwhile trip.
PETER AND WOLF
Recently Grades 4, 5, and 6 had
the opportunity to attend a
production of Peter and the Wolf at
the Blyth Festival Theatre. The
Grey Central* Parents' Association
fundeu part of the cost.
Just a reminder that Nov. 14 to
Nw. 18 is Canadian Children's
Book Week. We are inviting
members of the community to
Lavem Clark. The gospel lesson,
from Mark 12: 28b-34 was read by
the minister.
The choir anthem, entitled
Leaning On The Everlasting Arm
was directed by Barb Bosman.
Rev. Huntley delivered a sermon
entitled "Any Mummers Allowed
In?" He explained as part of his
sermon what "mummers" were.
"People in Newfoundland dress up
at Christmas like we do here on
Halloween. They knock on people's
doors, letting off a little steam,
playing a guitar or what have you
and just having a little fun, he said.
Mummers or trick or treaters as
he told the children earlier are
come to Grey Central during this
week and read to small groups of
children. Contact the school if you
are able to participate in the "story
sharing".

COLQUHOUN’S GRADE 5/8
New Student
By Katie Kuepfer and
Debora Schlumpf
This year we have a new family
from Switzerland at our school.
Debora Schlumpf compared our
school to her old school in
Emetschwil.
In Switzerland, Debora and her
brothers, Remo and David, went to
a school for Kindergarten to Grade
6 at 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. They
walked one kilometre and then took
a bus the rest of the way. At 12
noon they went home for lunch and
went back at 2 p.m.
Her school had 40 children in it
and two rooms. Its playground was

humorous way. "God has no
discrimination and treats us all the
same. He loves us for the way we
are," Rev. Huntley said.
Hymn Love Divine, All Loves
Excelling was sung.
Harvey Snell spoke on Minute
for Missions. "Hope in the Midst of
Struggle" was the topic. He told
about a Mrs. Chisell in Zimbabwe
having trouble raising a small fee
for her literacy lessons while
raising her children, toiling on the
