After WWII ended help was needed to rebuild homes devastated during the war. Carpenters and labourers volunteered, as did some nurses. By this time, help was extended not only for Mennonites in need, but to people from other denominations as well. Awareness of needs in parts of the world other than Europe became apparent. People were needed to help establish agricultural programs, to teach in schools, to work in hospitals, to work in other various medical area?. During the 60s the Vietnam War instigated the draft boards again. This time, not only were Menno­ nites conscientious objectors, but many other non-Mennonites were as well. Due to the historical record of the peace stance and the record of successful alternate service programs, draft boards accepted MCC programs. If one could prove he was a conscientious objector who was working on a MCC project, it qualified as alternate service. the guitar. For the children's message Rev. Huntley asked them what some special times were when they got dressed up. They replied, church, nighttime, dinner. He was thinking of trick or treating and asked them how they felt to be dressed up, feeling like they were someone else. The Old Testament Lesson, from Deuteronomy 6: 1-9 was read by Grey, Central Echo Students hear of careers at Madill On Nov. 1 the Grades 7 and 8s went to F.E. Madill for the Career Fair. There were many different exhibits to go to which we thought were very interesting. Some of the exhibits that were there were the Police Department, CKNX, Wingham Hospital, Health Care, Banking, and Veterinarian. The Grades 7s and 8s had the opportunity to go around asking questions about what education was necessary for the different careers and how much money you could earn when you first start out. It was a worthwhile trip. PETER AND WOLF Recently Grades 4, 5, and 6 had the opportunity to attend a production of Peter and the Wolf at the Blyth Festival Theatre. The Grey Central* Parents' Association fundeu part of the cost. Just a reminder that Nov. 14 to Nw. 18 is Canadian Children's Book Week. We are inviting members of the community to Lavem Clark. The gospel lesson, from Mark 12: 28b-34 was read by the minister. The choir anthem, entitled Leaning On The Everlasting Arm was directed by Barb Bosman. Rev. Huntley delivered a sermon entitled "Any Mummers Allowed In?" He explained as part of his sermon what "mummers" were. "People in Newfoundland dress up at Christmas like we do here on Halloween. They knock on people's doors, letting off a little steam, playing a guitar or what have you and just having a little fun, he said. Mummers or trick or treaters as he told the children earlier are come to Grey Central during this week and read to small groups of children. Debora Schlumpf compared our school to her old school in Emetschwil. In Switzerland, Debora and her brothers, Remo and David, went to a school for Kindergarten to Grade 6 at 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. They walked one kilometre and then took a bus the rest of the way. At 12 noon they went home for lunch and went back at 2 p.m. Her school had 40 children in it and two rooms. Its playground was Continued on page 26 acknowledged in a light and humorous way. The work of the Adult Literacy Organization of Zimbabwe is now supported by the Missions and Services Fund.
