Blyth was enjoying a two-man powerplay as Peter Craig’s point shot was tipped to Haggitt by Armstrong. The line of Chamney, Howson and Hakkers then swung into action in period two as Howson upped the lead to 3-1. The line lit up the red light with the last goal of the game midway through the third. Blyth By Rusty Blades Blyth put three solid games of hockey together on the weekend as they participated in the Zurich Midget Tournament. After losing their first game in overtime, the boys responded for two straight wins to claim the tournament Consolation Championship. Blyth opened against Ilderton on Friday night as the lead changed back and forth throughout, before Ilderton scored late in overtime to edge the locals 4-3. Ilderton took a 1-0 lead midway through the first but Peter Craig performed his magic two minutes later to tie the game 1-1. Goaltender Michael deJong assisted on the goal as he watched Craig skate coast-to-coast before scoring on a nifty deke. Blyth took a 2-1 lead on a powerplay goal one and a half minutes into the second as Christopher Howson and John Armstrong both had a whack at the puck before Benjie Hakkers poked the puck in from the scramble. Ilderton took a 3-2 lead before the second period ended but Blyth scored the only third period tally to send the game into overtime. With just under seven minutes remaining the Craig boys, Peter and Ben, teamed up to set up Mike Salverda's power play equalizer. It was a wild finish to the third period and continued throughout the five minute overtime frame. Both teams had plenty of scoring chances but Ilderton was the only team to finish one off as they scored a powerplay goal with one minute and 43 seconds left on he clock. Blyth pressured until the final buzzer but Ilderton came out the victors with this 4-3 overtime win. Blyth tangled with Dorchester in their second toumey game al noon on Sunday. 'Teemu' Cowan provided the offensive spark by assisting on three Blyth goals and enabling Blyth to eam their first win of the year by a 5-1 score. Joey Johns, who finally con­ vinced his 'ole man to leave the barn' and come watch a hockey game, opened the scoring in the hosted Mitchell on Nov. 7. first minute of the game, with assists to Jonathan Collins and Brian Marks. Cowan assisted on two quick goals with just under six minutes left in the first with linemates Marks and Mike Salverda pulling the trigger. Salverda also assisted on Marks' goal. Chris Stewart gave Blyth a 4-1 lead with the only second period goal as Cowan notched his third straight assist and Chad Haggitt his first. The game was Blyth's the rest of the way as both Michael deJong and Chris Bromley preserved the lead with some sparkling saves. Benjie Hakkers completed the scoring with seven minutes remaining in the game as he took a Ryan Chamney drop pass and wristed one upstairs, giving Blyth the 5-1 win. This sent Blyth into the Consolation Championship early Sunday evening against Lucan. Early evening soon turned into late evening as Lucan lead the penalty parade and, as a result, Blyth lead the scoring parade by notching four powerplay goals and claiming the Championship with a 4-1 triumph. Discipline and passing were the keys to the game with two assists being awarded on all of Blyth's goals. Chris Stewart opened the scoring two and a half minutes into the game as a result of a fine three way passing play with linemates Chad Haggitt and John Armstrong.
