This was another close, low-scoring, action- packed game. Blyth's only goal was the result of an end-to-end rush by defenceman Michael Bean, who sneaked a wrist shot past the goalie. However, with just 1:26 left on the clock, Milverton's Jeff Dale squeezed a rebound under Eric Jarrett's pads, to end the game tied 1-1. Three days later, Blyth travelled to Bayfield, were they notched-up Blyth Midgets begin with loss By Rusty Blades The Blyth Midgets were one of the last Blyth minor hockey teams to see game action this season as they hosted the Ripley Redwoods in an exhibition encounter Sunday evening. Ripley spoiled Blyth’s debut of yet another new set of sweaters as they scored a goal in every period on their way to winning 3-1. Blyth tied the game with five minutes left in the second after a rink-length dash by Peter Craig. Craig rushed deep into the Ripley zone before sending a pin-point another victory. Ripley took the lead before the period ended and salted away the 3- 1 victory with a power play tally midway through the third. Coach Doug Chamney, who was the only one without a hiding spot when the coaching volunteers were being sought, said the team played well considering this was their first game of the season. He stated that Blyth has 18 players this year and it will take some time for everyone to angled shot lilted into the net's corner. The team participates in the Zurich Midget Tournament this coming weekend before opening their regular season at home on Monday, Nov. 7 at 8:30 p.m. Come out and see where the dreams begin. Gorrie hosts UCW Regional The 32nd North Huron Regional Rally of the United Church Women was held in Gorrie United Church on Tuesday, Oct. 11. The church sanctuary was very nicely decor­ ated in a harvest Thanksgiving theme. Nancy Corrigan led the ladies in a sing-song after everyone had registered. After Rev. Jeff Hawkin's words of welcome, he called regional president Barb Anderson and Huron-Perth president Betty Graber to the front where he presented each with a pin - a replica of Gorrie United Church. Barb Anderson welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order. Jeanette Wardrop of Wingham was appointed secretary for the evening. Betty Graber brought greetings from Huron- Perth Presbyterial and the minutes of last year's rally were read. Six ladies from Fordwich/ Kurtzville provided special music by singing All Things Beautiful and Fair. Barb Anderson paid tribute to Vera Nicholson, the president of Bluevale UCW who died in May of this year. The business portion of the meeting was carried out followed by the roll call. There were 50 people present. Nancy Corrigan of Bluevale took everyone through a "stretch break" to the music of a cassette tape of New England hymns. The guest speaker was Irene Richardson of Staffa who spoke on "Family of the 90s". She emphasized how love and nurturing is so important to grow healthy and be equipped to be a part of society. Teach children the heritage of family and church. This will help them to honour those things, she said. Muriel Coultes of Belgrave thanked the speaker and also everyone else who had taken part in the evening. The worship service was conducted by Wroxeter UCW. The offering was collected by Whitechurch UCW which in turn extended an invitation to everyone to come to Whitechurch for the regional rally in 1995. Having completed her term as regional president Barb Anderson thanked everyone for all their help during the past two years. Gorrie UCW provided tasty refreshments for everyone at the conclusion of the rally. Brussels loses to Wingham Continued from page 20 town and were prepared for a bat­ tle.
