Firefighters to receive
special licence plates
The province has issued special
licence plate stickers to firefighters
who respond to emergencies with
their personal vehicles, Transporta
tion Minister Gilles Pouliot said
Oct. 14.
"Thanks to these stickers, police
officers at the scene of a fire will be
able to identify which vehicles
belong to volunteer and full-time
firefighters - and allow them clear
access so they can do their job,"
said Mr. Pouliot.
Ontario fire chiefs will only
distribute stickers to firefighters
who use their own vehicles to
respond to emergencies. The
stickers are green, with a white
Maltese Cross, the symbol for
volunteer firefighters. The sticker
will be affixed to the bottom left
comer of the front vehicle plate.
"The sticker does not give
firefighters any special privileges -
they must still obey all traffic
laws," said Mr. Pouliot. "But I hope
motorists will learn to recognize it
and do their best not to block or
obstruct vehicles that volunteers
may need at any time."

Association of Fire Chiefs,
