He has served two terms, plus one year. He has gained experience in poli­ tics as a member of various com­ mittees and boards while on council. He is seeking the position because he has developed an inter­ est in municipal affairs, and he will continue to strive to meet the needs of the community with an open mind. The most important issue to him is to hold taxes in line, and through communication, co-operation, and consideration meet the needs of the people. He says, "My personal goal is to continue to be a strong voice on council." Ronald Murray A candidate for reeve in McKil­ lop, Ron Murray has had three years' previous political experience as a councillor. He has also served 15 years with the Roman Catholic Separate School Bd. Mr. Murray is running to be "a strong and positive voice for the people of McKillop". He hopes to establish a five to 10 year plan of road maintenance and paving. "My personal goal is to create policies for hiring and dealing with employees and taxpayers' con­ cerns." He says he is running so he can, "stand up and be the people's voice in the township council. I will earn the voters' trust, not expect it." He adds, "I will fight to keep the Huron County landfill site out of our township, and encourage small business." Sharon McClure Sharon McClure is campaigning for McKillop council. She has served two terms of six years as councillor. She is seeking this position because she has the time to attend meetings and she enjoys being involved in the operation of the township. The most important issues to her are keeping taxes steady, sensible spending, and to maintain roads. Her personal goal is to keep an open mind and be available to lis­ ten to ratepayers' concerns. Marie Hicknell Marie Hicknell is seeking re­ election as McKillop reeve. She has previously served four terms. She has experience in politics as one term councillor, one term deputy reeve, the association direc­ tor of the Seaforth Agricultural Society, and the secretary treasurer of the Huron County Plowmen's Association. She is seeking the position because she feels she can do a good job and she has the time, now that she does not actively farm. Her personal goal is to do the best that she can. She is also a part time school bus driver. She says that her reason for run­ ning is, "for a new outlook into top­ ics discussed and helping to make McKillop farmers' issues heard." When asked what the most important issues to her are, she replied, "For myself, being a dairy farmer's wife and mother of four children, important issues are safe­ ty and enjoyment of family farm life, and much needed progression in McKillop." Wingham seniors plans bake and craft sale, Nov. 6 By Ronda Bennett This month has been filled with activity as the Wingham's Senior Centre prepares for its Craft and Bake Sale on Saturday, Nov. 6. The hand-crafted gifts certainly make the centre look festive. Bake tables and craft tables will be displayed and some of the area's best baking will be here for sale. There were numerous trips to enjoy this month. Cathy Ritsema's home was a welcome retreat! There's something very pleasant about being in the country when the leaves have changed colour - nature at its best! Rita Rice-Bowers, one of our former directors invited the Friday group to her home in Brussels. Everyone agreed - they had a wonderful time! The fall bus trip was to Wellesley, near Elmira. The hospitality and friendliness of the Mennonite community made the trip a memorable one and I'm sure we'll be back there again soon.
