The Citizen, 1994-10-26, Page 21The news from ondesboro [Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-436(7 UCW donates to CHuMS The October meeting of Londesboro UCW was held at the church on Monday evening, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. The worship service was conducted by Margaret Good and Betty Hulley. Margaret opened with hymn 384 Come Thee Thankful People Come. The scripture was read by Sherri Postma. Margaret gave a Thanksgiving story and a poem, "We give our Thanks". The Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. The minutes of the September meeting were read and seconded by Betty Hulley. There was a report on the Oct. 1 Barbecue Bake Sale and Auction. Dorothy Tamblyn gave the treasurer’s report showing a balance on hand of $2,010.84. The Bake Sale money $570 will be given to the Board of Five Blyth PS students placed in the top three in their division at a recent cross country meet. Margaret opened with a poem, "The World for All". The minutes of the September meeting were read. Roll call was taken up with eight members and two visitors answering. Edythe Beacom gave the treasurer's report. A card for Dora Shobbrook was signed. June had a contest which was won by Edythe Beacom. The draw, donated by Edythe, was won by Clara Riley. Cards were played. Penfounds greet Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Oct. 23 were Dennis and Margaret Penfound. Ushers were Bert Lyon and Garnet Wright. The sermon topic was "Why Me?" The senior youth group will meet for a video night at the manse on Thursday,- Oct. 27 from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. The Sacrament of Baptism will be celebrated next Sunday. Choir practice will be held at 10 a.m. on each of the next three Sundays. Canine Vision fundraiser a great success The annual Walk-a-Dog-athon, held recently in Goderich, was a tremendous success with a large contingency of walkers responding. June Hoggart, a regular partici­ pant in the walk and beneficiary of the Canine Vision program, along with the Londesboro Lions Club appreciated the many sponsors of the event who helped to raise $795.95. De Jong Phone 887-93351 Community gathers for buck and doe A large crowd of friends, neigh­ bours and relatives attended a buck and doe for Ron Stevenson and Nicole Olejnik at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Cen­ tre on Oct. 15. The music was supplied by the disc jockey Rob Cornelius from Ailsa Craig. Christine Devereaux from Exeter won the door prize and lucky draws were won by Doris Williamson of Walton, Dave Cronin of St. Colum- ban and Karen Williams from Lon­ don. Relatives, friends and neighbours gathered at the home of Betty McCall Saturday afternoon, Oct. 22 with Bev Stevenson as the hostess for a shower to honour Nicole Ole­ jnik. Formerly of Thorndale, the bride elect will marry Walton man, Ron Stevenson, next month. Several contests were enjoyed. Tracey Fischer read a poem "Mar­ riage Recipe". After the gifts were opened Nicole thanked everyone, and a social time was enjoyed. The people of Walton and area wish a speedy recovery to Randy Wood who was injured in an indus­ trial accident in Walton on Friday afternoon. Randy is recovering at University Hospital, London. We are keeping him in our thoughts and prayers as he travels the road back to health. A special celebration was held for Della Bennett, a Walton PS teacher, on Tuesday of last week. She received her 25 year service pin for teaching in Huron County. The festivities took place at the BMG arena in Brussels. Congratulations to Della and many more years of teaching ahead.
