Brussels Atoms earn 2 wins THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26, 1994. PAGE 11. S ports WOAA set flag rule Monday saw the Brussels Atom Reps host Milverton in their first exhibition game of the season. The visitors came flying scoring |he only two goals of the first period. Milverton held a two goal lead until the 14:25 mark of the second period when Chris Coulter got the home team on the board with assists from Stephen Todd and Andy Van Beek. One minute later Milverton regained their two goal lead, but with time winding down in the second Darryl Houston rushed end to end to score an unassisted goal with 17 seconds left. The Brussels boys seemed to get their legs in the third period as Brian Oldfield scored at 14:27. The hometeam atoms took their first lead of the game when Oldfield scored with assists going to Nolan Krotz and Marc Fischer at 10:38. Milverton fought back to tie the game at 7:32. As time was winding down Andy VanBeek hit Nolan Krotz with a pass to give the home team boys the win with 39 seconds left on the clock. On Friday night the team hosted Mitchell. Both teams rushed end to end, but no one was able to score during the first period. The game remained scoreless until the 1:42 mark of the second when the visiting team hit first. In the third period Mitchell got a two goal lead at 10:16 but the Brussels boys kept pressing and were rewarded with a goal at 4:05 as Coulter broke the shutout on a scramble in front of the net, assisted by Oldfield and Krotz. As time wound down Brussels pulled Matt McCall for the extra attacher but the buzzer went. Sunday night the Atom Rep team opened their season on the road in Goderich, defeating Goderich 8-0. The game was never in doubt as the Atoms dominated the play. Nolan Krotz scored just a few minutes into the first. Krotz got his second goal with only 14 seconds left in the first on a beautiful pass from Brian Oldfield. The Brussels team showed good positioning and passing in the second period. BRUSSELS CRUSADERS VS DRAYTON Saturday, October 29 7:30 p.m. to Chris Coulter and Stephen Todd at 9:27. Oldfield scored a nice powerplay goal on a nice pass from Robert Kerr at 4:29 of the second. The third period saw some excellent team passing. Chris Blake scored from the slot on a great pass from Todd from behind the net at 12:25. Oldfield scored his second goal of the game at 12:06 on a pass from Kerr, then Krotz completed his hat trick with a nice unassisted goal at 6:06. The visiting Atoms completed their scoring with a beautiful three way passing play. Todd scored at the 2:10 mark on assists from Blake and Coulter. The shutout went to Matt McCall. Defence and forwards worked very hard in both ends of the ice. Hockey teams who are members of the WOAA may have a new addition to their uniforms this sea­ son. Those attending the WOAA's annual minor hockey meeting recently were told, by OMHA Pres­ ident Ken Russell, that the Ontario Hockey Federation has recom­ mended that all representative teams wear a Canadian flag patch, either on their left shoulder or over the right breast. The federation has given the teams until Dec. 1 to get the patch­ es with noncompliance resulting in removal from the game. Many teams have voiced opposi­ tion to the patches. WOAA Chair Jack Twolan of Kincardine says if teams have not notified the WOAA office by Oct. 5, it will be assumed the team does not want the patches.
