The Crusaders held a 4-2 first Bulls improve record with win The Brussels Bulls got two goals Friday night from rookie Ryan Wright in a well deserved 6-2 win over the Hanover Barons. Any time the Bulls venture into Baron territory it is always exciting and the club appeared motivated playing a solid 60 minutes of hockey. The Barons got on the scoreboard first with a powerplay goal that appeared to have been knocked in with a high stick, but referee Blake Moggy disagreed. The Bulls evened the score on the powerplay with 23 seconds left in the first period when Captain Greg McNevan tapped home a pass from Tim Beyer. The Bulls took control in the second period scoring three unanswered goals. Ryan Wright got some help from lincmate Darin Alviano to score his first two goals of the season. Wright, who has a great pair of hands, put a couple of moves on some Hanover players that reminded Coach Scott Pettigrew of some of the moves Marty Rutledge use to make in the Bulls' uniform. Brian Zabel walked out from behind the net on a powerplay and tucked it home for the other Bulls' goal. In the third, veteran Peter Mulder scored early and late in the period. Just 14 seconds into the final frame Mulder was left all alone in front of the net. Nate Benders walked out from the comer with a nice move on a Baron's defenceman and slipped a pass over to Mulder, who had an open net to slide the puck home. Mulder then concluded the scoring for Brussels when he intercepted a pass in the Bulls' own end and galloped away on a period lead and went ahead 9-3 before Shelburne replied with three goals in the last minute of second period play. Strome's shorthanded goal midway through the final period sealed the win for the Crusaders. Specialty teams came up big for Brussels as Hewitt also scored breakaway capping the rush with a nice shot to the top left hand comer. Goalie Ryan Fisk came up with an excellent performance in the Bulls' net, stopping 35 shots and Brad Beuermann played a strong game on the blueline. Coach Scott Pettigrew was pleased with the win. "After the loss against Mt. Forest I was worried about how we would respond. I thought that was the best 60 minutes of hockey we have played so far. We did a lot of little things right that can make a difference in a hockey game."
