Poor turnout to Friendship Club meeting Friendship Club president Sarah Stephenson opened the meeting held at Maple Villa on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. with a reading "God Answers Prayers". There was a poor attendance at the meeting. Mary Lowe read a poem entitled "Humor" and Ethel Brewer read "A Chuckle for the Day". The club members are invited to attend the Harvest of Talent to be held on Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Belmore Community Centre. The present officers President, Sarah Stephenson; Secretary, Doris Hooper and Treasurer, Adah Smith agreed to remain on the executive until Dec. 31 on motion by Mary Lowe and seconded by Alf Sutton. A motion was made by Verna Tunney, seconded by Thelma Jacklin, that a donation of $25 be given to the Santa Claus Parade for treats. The Nov. 16 meeting will be the Christmas meeting to be preccedcd by a pot luck dinner at 12:30 p.m. It will be held at Maple Villa. Every member is requested to bring Bell Canada van ready for Halloween a guest with a $3 gift exchange. . It was moved by Mary Davidsoi and seconded by Adah Smith lha $10 be forwarded to the entertain ment committee to purchase smal gifts. Euchre followed with th< winners being: high man, Sara! Stephenson; high lady, Isobe Alcock; low man, Ethel Brewer low lady, Adah Smith. On Halloween night, two Bell Canada employees, Tim Prior and Brian Dietner, in co-operation with the Village of Brussels and the OPP will circulate in Bell Canada vehicles to check on the safety of children and to offer assistance as needed. Children are to feel free to approach the Bell Canada vehicles on Halloween night if they feel unsafe or threatened, Mr. Prior said. "We will be in radio equipped vans and can reach emei services if required. We will have the beacons flashing on the vehicles to increase visibility." Bell Canada is sponsoring Opera­ tion Pumpkin. The employees donate their personal time and Bell Canada donates the vehicles and handouts for this annual event, in the hope that all youngsters will have a safe and enjoyable Halloween. Just for You buys Country Garden Agnes Ten Pas of "Just for You" a gift and floral shop in Brussels announced that she has purchased Country Garden Flowers from Gladys Ellsmore and will be expanding her present business. Mrs. Ellsmore will be working with Mrs. Ten Pas and employee Donna Stulp, beginning the end of November, when her store located next to Brussels Country Inn will officially close. Though Just for You does floral arrangments now, they have not done arrangments for funerals. Mrs. Ellsmore will be teaching them that aspect of the business, Mrs. Ten Pas said. To accommodate the increase in services, Just for You will be expanding into the old bank. White, Clerk A Brussels area man and his pas­ senger sustained major injuries in a crash in Grey Twp. on Thursday night. Wingham OPP slate that Warren G. Hayes, 46 of RR5, Brussels and his passenger Raymond W. Law, 34 of Wroxeter, were travelling west on Cone. 5/6 in Grey Twp, at 80 kilometres an hour. Police say that the 1979 Chev pick up veered off the travelled portion of the road, sideswiping a bridge. The truck then continued across the road into the south ditch where it snapped off a hydro pole before rolling onto its roof. Both men were taken to Wing­ ham Hospital by ambulance. The truck was demolished. Mr. Hayes has been charged with impaired, over 80 and driving with­ out insurance, the police said. Lodge hosts party Morning Star Rebekah Lodge hosted a casserole supper and euchre parly Monday, Oct. 17 in the lodge rooms. About 60 people enjoyed all kinds of casseroles provided by the members. There were enough staying after the meal for 10 tables of euchre. The prize winners were: high ladies', Annie Wight; high men's, Jim Smith; low ladies', Edith Baker; low men's, George Lavery; most zeros, Rcla Marks; most lone hands, Elcala Ludwig; nearest birthday, Edith Baker. Several more persons received draw prizes. The next regular card party is the third Monday in November.
