The market at Brussels Livestock saw all classes of cattle selling $2 - $4 lower. Cows sold $2 lower. There were 584 steers on offer selling from $78 to $84 to the high of $92. Seventeen steers consigned by Wayne O'Brien, Centralia, averaging 1,379 lbs. sold for an average of $79.33 with sales to $92. Four steers consigned by Mike Dalton, Goderich, averaging 1,190 lbs. sold for an average of $83.92 with sales to $90.50. Twenty-six steers consigned by Don Culbert, Dungannon, averag­ ing 1,405 lbs. sold for an average of $80.51 with sales to $88.75. Fourteen steers consigned by Gerald Geisel, Elmira, averaging 1,529 lbs. sold for an average of $78.67 with sales to $87.75. Twelve steers consigned by Jim Howatt, Londesborough, averaging 1,418 lbs. sold for an average of $83.32 with sales to $87. Three steers consigned by David Bowles, Brussels, averaging 1,453 lbs. sold for an average of $84.36 with sales to $86.25. Fifty-four steers consigned by Murray Forbes, Clinton, averaging 1,319 lbs. sold for an average of $81.04 with sales to $86. Twenty-two steers consigned by Maple Ridge Farms, Brussels, averaging 1,420 lbs. sold for an average of $81.67 with sales to $85.75. Forty-six steers consigned by G. A. Stewart Farms, Ripley, averag­ ing 1,273 lbs. sold for an average of $81.97 with sales to $84.60. Forty-five steers consigned by Carlyle Thomson, Parkhill, averaging 1,345 lbs. sold for an average of $81.73 with sales to $82.85. There were 145 heifers on offer selling from $78 to $84 to the high of $86. Five heifers consigned by Lloyd Whitley, Creemore, averaging 1,196 lbs. sold for an average of $83.41 with sales to $86. "Working co­ operatively with the Heifer Development Program managers is a natural step for BIO", says Hilbert Van Ankum, chairman of the BIO board of directors. "The goal of raising and identifying replacement females that will improve a herd is consistent with the objectives of BIO." Producers will be able to place their heifers in the centres in this fall, where, they receive optimum feeding and management to produce productive cows.
