WI hosts 7 tables of euchre The Majestic Women's Institute held its card party on Tuesday, Oct. 4 with seven tables of euchre played. Lucky prize winners were: lucky lady, Kate Wilson; low lady, Edith Baker; high man, Reinhardt Bauer; low man, Gamer Nicholson; ladies' lone hands, Sarah Stephenson and Thelma Keffer; men's lone hands, Stewart Musgrove; lucky table, Jean Bridge and Ella Stone. Lucky tally prizes were won by Jean Fraser, Albert Quipp, Ida Evans, Verna Tunney, Orville Bauer, Alice Nicholson, June Jacklin, Doug Hemingway, Jim Smith, Helen Gallop, Mel Jacklin, Ada Smith and Ruby Steiss. Draws were made at the fall fair for the Majestic Women's Institute. The appliqued quilt was won by Janice Jacklin; sweatshirt by Lillian Moses and the painted goose went to Doris McCall. Madill Secondary School in Wingham on Oct. 7. In back, from left, are: Dan Hall, also winner of the John Stewart McNaughton Memorial award; Jamie Raymond, presenter of the award and great granddaughter of the late Mr. Menzies; Jay Hahn, also winner of the proficiency award for Grade 13, proficiency in Physics and Mathematics and the W.S. Emma Richards and Jason Engel were absent. 8 get Menzies’ award Eight graduates of Brussels Public School were recipients of the 1994 George Menzies Endowment Fund awards presented at the F.E. Madill Secondary School Commencement exercises in Wingham on Friday. Jaime Raymond of Brampton, a great-granddaughter of the late Mr. Menzies, made the presentations. Jay Hahn, son of Bruce and Judy Hahn, is attending University of Guelph majoring in bio-chemistry; Jacqueline Seili, daughter of Joe and Debbie Seili is at Georgian College, Owen Sound, preparing for a business career. Attending Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough are Dan Hall, son of Jack and Jane Hall, who is studying Electromechanical Engineer;ng Technology with a focus on robotics and Kelly Overholt, daughter of Jack and Sue Overholt in a Law and Security program. Attending Conestoga College are Maryanne Perrie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Perrie; Jason Engel, son of Barry and Diane Engel and Rhonda Heise, daughter of Vern and Mary Heise. Maryanne is studying Electronics and Engineering Technology, Jason is in a Mechanical Engineering Technology Program and Rhonda is studying practical nursing at the Wingham campus. Also receiving an Endowment Fund Award was Emma Richards, a former resident of Brussels who is now attending the University of Victoria, British Columbia majoring in chemistry. This is the 24th consecutive year the fund has provided a sum to graduates of Brussels Public School who are proceeding directly to post-secondary education. In all, 144 students have benefitted from this bequest which will continue to assist Brussels area students for many years to come, to meet the ever-increasing costs of post secondary education.
