The Brussels Bulls were slow out
of the gate on Saturday night in
Wingham in their Western Junior C
season but by the time the final
buzzer sounded both teams knew
they had been in a game. Despite a
dramatic comeback, the Bulls came
up just short losing 7 - 6 to the
Ironmen.
Wingham came out flying and
scored three times in the first four
minutes and built a 5 - 1 lead by the
end of the first. Zach Smith got the
Bulls' only goal with a nice shot
from just inside the blueline.
However, the Bulls actually
controlled the game the rest of the
way outscoring the Ironmen 5 - 2
and out shooting the Ironmen 33-
17.
their goalie and Greg McNcvan cut
the lead to one when he slapped
home a rebound off a point shot
from Ryan Kipfcr. The Bulls got
the goalie out again in the final
minute and came within a whisker
of licing it except a puck bounced
over the slick of Ryan Wright who
was all alone in front of the
Ironmen net.
Pete Mulder was the scoring hero
for the Bulls with a hat-trick plus
an assist for good measure. Josh
Alexander also connected on a long
shot through the legs of Wingham
Goalie Jason Reid.
The opening weekend for the
Bulls did not get any easier as
Brussels had to travel to Durham
Sunday afternoon to play the
seconds and the patriots capitalized
with two quick goals to pul the
game out of reach. Mt. Forest
walked off with a 6-2 victory and
once again could be the team to
beat. Greg Fritz and Brandon
Alviano scored for Brussels.
Bulls Coach Scott Pettigrew said
the weekend had a mixed message.
"We proved to ourselves we can
play with the big boys, but we also
found some areas of our defensive
play that were lacking."
The Bulls travel to Kincardine
Friday night to lake on the
Bulldogs and then return home
Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. game
against the other expansion team
this season, the Wiarlon Wolves.

Network provides labour info
The Huron County Coalition
made up of agencies, employers
and the general public has been
working together for a year to
establish a Labour Market
Information Network. This
network will make relevant labour
market information instantly
accessible, avoid duplication of
information gathering amongst
service providers and allow for
timely updates of collected
information for analysis.
This centralized information
system will consequently allow
employers and employees to access
labour market information
including job opportunities,
industrial profiles, occupational
profiles, wage rates, training
opportunities, self-employment
information, business directories to
name a few.
This Huron County Coalition is
an opportunity for business, labour,
social services agencies and the
general public to work in a
partnership sharing knowledge,
ideas and serving as an opportunity
to discover common areas of
interest. The meetings are public
and anyone interested in
participating is invited to bring
their ideas and suggestions to the
next meeting.
The meeting will be held at the
Clinton Legion on Thursday, Oct.
13, from 8:30 - 11 a.m. Facility is
accessible.
Gearing up for
hockey season
Hockey season is gearing up and The Citizen would love to hear
how your team is doing.
With so many leagues in our area it is almost next to’impossible to
cover each and every team so we ask for the help of the coaches or
parents in reporting on how the local athletes are doing.
Forms are available at both Citizen offices. Once filled out they
can be relumed to either office by deadline. No special writing skills
arc needed; just a list of goals scored and by whom.
As well, having a copy of your team's schedule gives us an oppor
tunity to try and arrange it so that we can photograph at least a few
of the games.
If we don't know when your team is playing at home we can't be
there.
