UCW discusses family
Auburn United Church Women
met on Monday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m.
at the church with a good
attendance. As this is the
International Year of the Family
the platform board held Biblical,
and other appropriate sayings, on
the subject. Bernice Gross opened
the meeting on the family, speaking
of the difference between human
and animal family care. Humans
consider children always a part of
the family - parents and
grandparents are always there to
give, love, care and spiritual help.
This closed with a reading "If a
Child Lives".
Laura Mac Chamncy sang a solo
"You arc part of the Family" with
Nancy Park, the pianist. Scripture
was read by Marilyn Vcrbcck
followed by the singing of "A
Christian Home".
Marilyn then spoke on "Children
and Chance - what a child secs and
hears helps shape their lives - it
can't be left to chance. The
guidance they receive is the path
they follow."
An excellent skit was given.
Nancy was commentator, Graham
Worscll - the boy, Bernice - his
school teacher. Shelley Worscll
played his mother,- Marilyn was the
father and Laura Mac, the minister.
In the skit trouble started in
school where another lad was
picked on by the children due to his
nationality. In the end it showed
that the boy had started his
prejudice because of things that his
dad had said. The father was quite
surprised to find that he was to
blame. Laura Mac then gave a
reading on "A Little Boy". We
expect them to grow’ up loo
quickly. Bernice gave two readings,
"A Mother's Prayer" and "Two
Prayers."
Offering was received by Elva
Armstrong and Lillian Hallam, the
offertory sung followed by prayer
by Bernice. Worship closed with
the singing of llappy the Home.
President Joyce Bean took over
the business. Minutes were read by
Ruth Jardin and approved. The
treasurer's report was given by
Nancy Park. There is a balance of
$2,127 on hand and $539 for
missions. October UCW donations
will go strictly to missions.
Ruth gave her card and gift
report. She had handed in Knechtel
tapes received and collected
$88.18. She also spoke of the quilt
completed and thanked her helpers.
A thank you letter was also read
regarding a quilt given to Five
Oaks. The UCW will be
responsible for lunch on the
anniversary Oct. 16. We will also
serve a dinner to the Lions and
guests with approximately 36
expected. The Fall Rally will be on
Oct. 3 at Victoria Street Church,
Goderich and Auburn is
responsible for the Bible Study
program. A skit is to be planned
and arrangements were made for it.
Blyth United Church is having a
sale Oct. 15 and 16. Thankoffcring
is on Nov. 61. Carrie Johnston will
be the guest speaker.
Maxine Seers and Maureen Bean
are to sec about the purchase of two
dehumidifiers for the church.
Nancy Park spoke on a new UCW
cookbook, "Lunches and Brunches";
fifteen must be purchased. No
definite decision was reached.
Kay Lapp spoke on the Observer.
It is hoped that every home lakes
the excellent church magazine.
The meeting closed with a
delicious lunch while we enjoyed a
video on the Christmas concert
shown by Margaret Bakker.
Il was a perfect family ending.
