The Bookies captured the A championship of the Brussels-Walton Ladies Slo-pitch league at the playoff tournament on Saturday. A few local youngsters joined the team on a ride through town on the 1829 firetruck, once belonging to Brussels, and now owned by Jack McCutcheon. Bookies take championship "Go for the Gold" $1,000 in Gold Coin or Cash to be won at the 131 st LUCKNOW FALL FAIR The Brussels-Walton Ladies Slo-Pitch League wound up its ball season with a one-day tournament held in Brussels on Saturday, Sept. 10. The day began with a good close game between the DieHards and Walton with Walton winning in the seventh inning 10-5. Game two had the Bookies playing against TFA in another close game with a final score Bookies 13, TFA 7. In game three the DieHards Bowlers fill 10 greens The last tournament of the lawn bowling season was held Thursday, Sept. 8 with all 10 greens filled. Winners were: first, Jack Fisher, Lucknow, three wins 49 scored in 28 ends; second, Jack McDonald, Lucknow, three wins 49 scored in 24 ends; third, John Kindersma, Stratford, two wins 47 plus 12; fourth, Hap Hall, Lucknow, two wins 43; fifth, Arnold Rathwell, Atwood, two wins 41 plus one; OFA number important Attention farmers! The Bombers took this one 20-9. The closest game and a very exciting one was when the Bookies played against the Scramblers. It took extra innings to eventually have the Bookies win 5-4. Next Walton came up against the Bombers. A good game was played by both teams, but Walton got the win, 12-8. The "B" Final was played between the Scramblers and the Bombers, with the Bombers being the "B" Champions. The "A" Final was played between Walton and the Bookies. The Bookies took the "A" Championship. They were given a ride around town on J.L. McCutcheon's fire truck in celebration. Trophies presented to the winning teams were compliments of Murray Lowe. In order to obtain any prizes or prize money a sample of the crop must be exhibited at the fair on Tuesday, Sept 20 by noon. Sponsors have been extremely generous with prizes again this year. Some prizes consist of bags of barley seed, 10 bags of wheat seed, 3 bags white bean seed, seed com as well as many cash prizes.
