M. Bailey to run for reeve
THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14,1994. PAGE 3.
Mother, daughter greet at United
Mason Bailey
As the November municipal elec
tions draw near, Mason Bailey of
the Blyth area has been the first to
throw his hat into the ring for the
reeve's position.
Mr. Bailey has been a member of
the Blyth council since July 1993
and says he "is not content with the
way things have been."
"I have received a lot of pressure
from people who have asked me to
run," he says, so he decided to enter
the race.
"I hope that the people of Blyth
will elect a council which is more
receptive to development and
investment in this community; one
that will develop a more relaxed
regulatory system," he says.
"There are penalties for too many
things. These never were necessary.
We can't run (Blyth) like London;

there is a difference."
"(The village) should relax regu
lations of the planning act. We
have the same rules as Toronto and
they are strangling us," he says.
"We also need to get a grip on
taxation and we should work to
influence the county and the school
boards to do the same."
Mr. Bailey says, "The long range
garbage issue should be looked at.
There are better ways to handle the
garbage. We don't have to sort the
(recycleables)."
"We should put pressure on
upper governments to look for
other methods."
Mr. Bailey says, "It is the coun
cil's responsibility to serve the
ratepayers' interests."
"We work for the ratepayers.
They vote us in and they pay us."
"We are representatives of the
public. We must be fair, but the
ratepayers come first."

and Melanie Bearss was in charge

Rev. Stephen Huntley opened the

was followed by the singing of
Praise My. Soul, The King of
Heaven. Prayer of Confession, / am
a New Creation was sung in unison
accompanied by Rev. Huntley on
the guitar.
For the children's time, Rev.
Huntley asked them what they took
to school the first day back. They
answered, book, pencil, etc. and
something for show and tell. He
compared it to coming to church.
"We are all learning by coming to
church, even as adults. We don't
need books, as Jesus is a teacher
and by listening to his message, it
is like going to school for all ages,"
he said.
Susan Howson spoke on Minute

war in Rwanda and said, "The
United Church was already there
