Brewers celebrate golden wedding anniversary Approximately 50 friends and relatives gathered at the home of Dianne and Brian Huether on the occasion of Joe and Ethel Brewer's 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 28. Earlier in the day the couple enjoyed brunch at their home attired in the 50-year-old wedding dress and a tight-fitting suit. The couple was married on Sept. 2, 1944 at Melville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Samuel Kerr officiating and Mr. L. D. Thompson as organist. Part of the wedding party were present at the celebration: Mary Lowe, bridesmaid; Ross Cunning ham, groomsman and Kenneth Bowler, London, ring bearer. The Brewers were the recipients of many beautiful gifts and cards, also receiving congratulatory messages from Premier Bob Rae, Prime Minister Jean Chretien and the Governor General of Canada. A bountiful smorgasbord was served to all present. Brussels People Eleanor Hemingway, with other members of her family, attended the Godkin-Schurteman wedding in Fort Francis on Aug. 20. Ross, Anne and Darlene Hemingway attended the funeral of Anne's brother-in-law in Saskatoon last week. Jane Devries had relatives over from Holland. When they arrived the Friesian flag was out to welcome them. They were impressed that such a small village has such a large arena, for hockey and skating in winter. Also that Brussels offers so many things to the public, like swimming pool, ball park, lawn bowling, tennis and a beautiful park for picnics. The Mason Chapel, too is something Brussels can be proud of, they thought. The Thriftshop was another place for them to visit and they even took some items home with them. They watched a wedding ceremony, which they found very different than in Holland. Over there the bride and groom are married at the town hall and afterwards blessed in the church but the town hall is the place for a lawful wedding, to be registered. They were amazed that cars would slow down and let them cross the street. They left with pleasant thoughts about our friendly town. Ashley Gropp relumed home Fri day after a week at Camp Edge wood, a Lutheran Church camp located al Eden Mills. Part of her confirmation studies, the camp also provided Ashley with an opportunity to make many new friends from Owen Sound, Wellesley and Stratford. Pastor Don Thomas of St. Peter's Lutheran Qhurch, Milverton accompanied the confirmation class to camp. LOSE UP TO 10 lbs. In 3 Days! With the Tennen III™ Diet Plan Try It! It works!
