Ex-Bull competes for Canada A former Brussels Bulls player was a member of a gold-medal team which represented Canada al the Festival Olympico Mcxicano Hockey Tournament in La Copa, Mexico, recently. Todd Norman of Gowanstown travelled to Mexico with 19 of Canada's best under-18 players, for the tournament which ran from Aug. 1 to 6. Todd was selected for the Cana­ dian team after scout Sheldon Fer­ guson spotted him as a member of the under-17 team competing in a national tournament in December, 1993 in Amos, Quebec. The Canadians competed against the USA, Russia and Japan reach­ ing the finals in the round-robin competition with a 2-0-1 record. The final game saw a rematch against the USA, whom they had tied 2-2 earlier in the tournament. Canada took the championship by beating the American team 5 2. Throughout the tournament, Todd helped out his team by cant­ ing several goals and assists includ­ ing a hat trick against the Japanese Todd says, "It's just an honour to make the team and when you'do well and win, it makes it that much better." Todd will be returning to his OHL team, the Guelph Storm, on Sept. 1, to prepare for the upcom­ ing season. MPP announces rural grant Paul Klopp, MPP Huron announced Aug. 18 payments totalling $30,123 to the Ausable- Bayfield Conservation Authority and to the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority for cleanup projects in the rural portions of their watersheds. The payments, announced on behalf of Environment and Energy Minister Bud Wildman, are made available under the Clean Up Rural Beaches (CURB) program. "Clean beaches are an important part of life in our rural communities," Mr. Klopp said. "By directly assisting farmers and other local residents, this innovative program is funding those who can best contribute to the cleanup of our beaches." At the ABCA, this funding will provide capital grant assistance to landowners for two manure storagc/barnyard runoff control systems ($17,223) and for two septic systems ($3,394). Al the MVCA, the funding will provide capital grant assistance to landowners for controlling two livestock access locations ($6,023) and for two septic systems ($3,483). The CURB program provides capital grant assistance to clean up beaches in 28 Ontario watersheds. Region gets landfill grants Bulldogs lose to Clinton The Brussels Bulldogs finished their playoff series with Clinton Selects this week. Wednesday, in Clinton, the Bulldogs came up short giving up 11 hits and eight runs as Clinton won 8 to 4. Sunday night the Bulldogs had trouble with Clinton again. While Clinton’s defense was strong, the Bulldogs struggled in the outfield. Clinton scored seven runs on eight hits with six Brussels errors. The Bulldogs responded with five hits producing only two runs. The Clinton Selects win this series and advance to the second round of the playoffs. Heuther earns win Continued from page 10 inning. The funding, announced on behalf of Environment and Energy Minister Bud Wildman, is made available under the ministry's Financial Assistance Program and the Waste Management Improve­ ment Program. "I am pleased to announce these grants to these townships in the county of Huron to improve their landfill sites," Mr. Klopp said. "These projects will assist the municipalities to manage their waste in an environmentally safe manner." The following grants were announced: Under the ministry's Waste Management Program: • East Wawanosh, $5,000 capacity study • Grey, $5,000 capacity study • Tumbcrry, $5,000, capacity study • West Wawanosh, $5,000 capacity study Under the ministry's Financial Assistance Program: • Stephen, $42,500, landfill expansion Plans for any landfill expansion must be approved by the ministry. The Financial Assistant Program and the Waste Management Improvement Program assist municipalities with their waste management projects.
