The two teams faced off in the Pre-mite tournament held in Brussels this past Saturday. Bluevale went on to win the A, while Belmore captured the B. The tradition continues as the Brussels Tigers once again find themselves eliminated in opening round playoff action. Despite losing only 17 of 76 Huron County Fastball League games in their history the Tigers have won only four of 12 attempts in playoff action. This season Brussels finished with a 10-4-1 record but were officially eliminated by the Walton Brewers after a 5-1 loss Friday night. Monday night saw the Tigers score six, fifth inning runs enroute to a 7-6 scries opening win. Gary Pipe batted two for three, including a bases loaded triple, while Ken Bulls plan fundraiser As a fundraising venture the Brussels Bulls Junior C Executive is planning a community prize cal­ endar. The calendar, which will feature photos of the area will list upcom­ ing events sponsored by service clubs, groups and organizations from Brussels and the surrounding outside areas. Those who would like to have their events included can contact Gerry Wheeler, 887- 6223, or Joyce Jacklin, 887-6905. There will be daily draws made from the names of calendar owners for the chance to win certificates as well. Higgins went three for four. Todd Uhrig pitched the win, striking out 10. Wednesday in Seaforth the Tigers opened the scoring early, on a Doug Shaw, two RBI single. Walton replied with four in their turn at bat, then scored 10 in the sixth for a 14-2 score tying the scries. Game one losing pitcher Terry Elligscn, rebounded with an eight hit game for the win while Doug Conley went the distance in the loss. C BRUSSELS BULLS HOCKEY CLUB Another Western Junior C hockey season is just around the comer and the Brussels Bulls are ready to take to the ice. This year promises to be interesting with the league expanding to seven teams with the addition of the Wiarton Wolves and the Kincardine Bulldogs. Once again the Bulls training camp will be based out of Listowcl. The first on-ice sessions will be this Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 27 and 28) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Bulls hopefuls will also be put through a fitness testing program al the Brussels Arena on Wednesday, Aug. 31. The Bulls have five exhibition games scheduled. On Friday, Sept. 3, a team of rookies will travel to Seaforth to play a rookie squad Ccnlcnnaircs. The Bulls will then travel to Waterloo on Friday, Sept. 16 to lake on New Hamburg. The spirit 83 will return to Listowcl on Sunday, Sept. 18 for a 2 p.m. game. The next weekend, Brussels will travel to Erin, Friday, Sept. 23 and then stage the rematch the next afternoon in Listowcl al 2 p.m. Scott Pettigrew is back for his fourth season as coach of the Bulls Winner of the Walton Area Sports Club 50/50 Draw was Greg Clark Proceeds go towards new ball diamond lights. while Ken Ball enters his second year as manager. Mr. Pettigrew will be assisted by Charlie Smith, plus Mike Henry, a former Junior C goaltender who has been added as a second assistant. Mr. Pettigrew says, "Our big hole to fill is in net. Scott Walls got drafted and Art Houghton has gone overage so we will be looking al the two rookie goalies." But, the Bulls' Coach added, "We could have 10 to 13 players returning so it shouldn't take as long to get a system in place." The Bulls had trouble scoring goals last season and Mr. Pettigrew admits some veterans arc going to have to put up some belter numbers if the club is to once again chal­ lenge for the league championship. The Bulls will play a 30 game schedule this season, two less than last year. Brussels first three games will be on the road starting with a game in Wingham against the Ironmen on Oct. 1 at 8:30. The Bulls first home game will be Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2:00 when Wiarton visits the Brussels arena. Any player who did not receive an invitation and wants to try out can register on Saturday or call 357-2474. The Bulls will once again be holding its hockey school from Oct. 3 to the 7. Pre-register can be done during sign up for Minor Hockey in Brussels.
