Centre for Students has success The Canada Employment Centre for Students (CEC-S) closed its door for the 1994 summer on Aug. 12. Supervisor Bernice Wollis (supervisor) and Summer Employ ment Officer Debbie Edgar considered the summer a success for students. The number of positions placed was up by 24.8 per cent and vacancies filled were up by 32.9 per cent. Students had more job opportunities and many bencfitted from the centre's referral service. The CEC-S placed orders through government funding such as Summer Employment Exper ience Development (SEED), Summer Employment Experience (SEE) and the Environmental Youth Corps (EYC) as well as lots of casual and part-time orders from within the coverage area. Many promotional activities helped boost awareness of the Centre including: a SEED package campaign of "Help the Economy Crow-Hire a Student", a dry cleaning ticket campaign, a Job Shadowing program for students, CKNX TV and radio interviews, press releases as well as a very successful BBQ with proceeds to the Joan Heimbcckcr Memorial Scholarship Fund. Over S200 was raised for the scholarship and "Walk for Joan." This barbecue was held in conjunction with an Employer Appreciation Draw on July 29. Many students acquired full lime, part lime or casual jobs this summer. Students still seeking employment can use the main Canada Employment Centre (CEC) for job postings. The main CEC office is located at 210 Main Slrecl East and is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 - 4:00. The phone number of the CEC is 291 -2920. A train can weigh 10,000 limes more than a car and the impact of a train hitting a car is like a car back ing over a pop can.
