Feeding motocross spectators, riders a big job Feeding over 500 motocross rid ers and their families is a major undertaking which the Brussels Optimist Club has decided to take on this year. The Trangs Can National Moto cross Championship, scheduled for Aug. 18 to 2L is in its fourth year of being held at the Chris and Judy Lee farm near Walton. With thousands of meals needed for the four-day event, the Opti mists plan a cafeteria-style food concession. Breakfast will be available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mom- Award commemorates racer For those involved in motocross and for those who just love to watch, the presentation of the Rick Joseph Memorial Award will remind them of a young man who loved the sport. Rick Joseph was a modest young racer whose natural talent and per sonal dedication to the sport were obvious. His drive to succeed had allowed him to achieve a personal goal in his last competition. He earned a motocross win at the Florida Mini-Olympics. The award is made possible by Rick's parents, Ellie and Richard Joseph, who remain strong support ers and great competitors in motocross. Mrs. Joseph competes in the ladies division while her hus band takes part in the old timers class. The award, a combination of cash and plaque, is given to the intermediate rider who best dis plays the qualities of sportsmanship and dedication to the sport. The young racers will be observed throughout the weekend, by a panel of evaluators. Vintage machines race A special challenge event has been organized for the enjoyment of racing fans. Dan "Dangerous" Davidson has put together a Vintage Can/Am challenge, scheduled for Sunday. Riders from Michigan and New York will race against any CMC Canadian rider on a vintage machine. There will be two classes; 1974 and before and 1975 to 1980. Information can be obtained by contacting Mr. Davidson at (416) 450-5157. Last year's recipient was Jeff Sykes The special award, with cash val ues of $150, $100 and $50, will be presented in Rick's memory, at the Trans Can National Motocross Championships held in Walton on Aug. 18 to 21. On Sun day, there should be 20 to 25 peo ple working behind the counter so we can put the food out as quickly as the orders come." Along with the meals, snack foods and refreshments will be available throughout the weekend. "We are ready to serve 15,000 cus tomers," says Mr. Sholdicc.
