Markses celebrate 25th year Twenty-eight celebrants from the Belgrave area and as many guests gathered in the nicely decorated United Church schoolroom in Belgrave on Monday afternoon, Aug. 8. The event is held to honour those who have reached 80 years and over and was sponsored this year by the Evening Group of the UCW. Mrs. Muriel Coultes, president, welcomed all the celebrants and guests and acted as MC for the afternoon. A popular musical group, which included Alex Robertson and Mary Coultes of Wingham, Gordon McBumcy of Belgrave and Audrey and Jack Adair of Molesworth, entertained. They played several musical numbers of toe-tapping music. Mrs. Pam Gethke of Goderich and Mr. Vincent all expressed their thanks for the wonderful afternoon of celebration. accompanied by her mother Mrs. Les Shaw, sang May Each Day, which was followed by a reading Picking a winner by Mrs. Ross Higgins, Mrs. Lila Procter, accompanying herself on a guitar, sang several numbers which the audience joined in with. Mrs. Coultes led in the singing with Mrs. Freda Johnston at the piano. Several well known hymns were sung. Mrs. Doris Michie and Mr. Harold Vincent, newest Belgrave celebrants were called forward to cut the cake and happy birthday was sung. The oldest celebrant attending was Mrs. Esther McCallum who is 98 years young. Mrs. Coultes said the grace and while the cake and ice cream was being prepared the band played several more numbers, including a solo by Audrey Adair. Mrs. Clara Rinn, Mrs. Michie Don and Carol Vincent, Patrick, Angela and Aaron of Prosser Brooks, New Brunswick, have returned home after visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent of Belgrave, Mr. and Mrs. George Webster of Wingham, as well as other relatives in the area. Mrs. Dora Scott and Miss Gwen Scott of Barrie, Mrs. Pat Huck and Ted of Edmonton, Alberta visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Campbell and family. They also visited Mrs. Florence Coultes of Huronlca, Brussels, to celebrate her 86th birthday. President Lois Elliott read a poem, So Long as There are Homes. Roll call was answered by "Something about your family". The minutes of the June and July meetings were read. Rela gave the treasurer's report. A reply was Seniors dance date set The Senior Dance is at the Hall at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17. The Vanier Institute of the Fami­ ly The family of Jack and Doreen Marks honoured them on Aug. 13 in the Belgrave Community Centre on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. Relatives, friends and neighbours attended from Belgrave, Wingham, Blue­ vale, Blyth, Brussels, Forest, Hamilton, Stratford, Listowel and Londes boro. On Saturday, Mrs. Howard Zcltlcr, Sherry, Amanda and Alicia of RR 4, Walkerton visited with her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Procter of Belgrave. received from the Environment Minister and correspondence was read from the Huntington's Society. The guest speaker was Mrs. Jean Mathers of Bluevale. She was very interesting. She spoke on the Institute Convention at Truro, Nova Scotia. Reta Kelland presented her with a Londesboro Cook Book. Grace was sung. Lunch was served by Helen Dale and Annie Vincent. Friends and neighbours will be sorry to hear Laura Lyon is a patient in Clinton Hospital. Best wishes of the community are extended to her for a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor, Trudy and Ron, along with other family members, friends and neighbours, helped Bob and Peggy Taylor celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary at the Ripley-Huron Complex, Saturday evening, Aug. 13. Dr. Ron Taylor has returned to St. John's, Newfoundland, after spending three weeks with his parents and family. Don Watson, left of Watson's Home Hardware in Gorrie, donated materials and constructed the home, which was a fundraising project for the Huron Heart and Stroke Foundation.
