Jackman, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, left, was one of many people in attendance for the delicious dinner preceding the 20th anniversary retrospective celebration at Blyth Festival this past Sunday. Also queueing up for dinner was Festival founder and its first Artistic Director James Roy. Seniors hold annual picnic On June 27 the Blyth Swinging Seniors gathered at the pavilion in the Lions Park for their annual picnic. At noon 23 seniors sat down to a bountiful picnic dinner, after which President John Hesselwood conducted a short business meeting. Happy Birthday was sung to June Peck, Gene Snell, Vera Badley and Shirley and Les Rutledge for their June birthdays and to Alvin Snell for his birthday in July. John delighted them with a few good jokes and reminded all about going to Huronlea on Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. to entertain for the monthly residents' birthday party. The next meeting will be Sept. 28 and members are to bring a friend if possible. Several games and contests led by Mary Walden, John Hessel­ wood, Jean Nethery and Janet Laurie were enjoyed. These were Picnic Bingo and Name Bingo, a contest naming parts of the body using three letters, dropping clothes pins in a milk bottle, guessing number of candies in ajar and the number of berries in a box, the weight of two melons and guessing the contents of a mystery pkg. Members also played a dressup game with men's underwear and balloons. Everyone enjoyed the games and many won prizes. It was a very pleasant day about 25 degrees C and no rain until after the event ended. Blyth People On Sunday, July 31, 70 descendants of the late David and Rebecca Cook, attended the 15th Cook Reunion, which was held at the Blyth Lions Park. At 1:30 p.m. everyone sat down to a bountiful picnic dinner. President Lesley Cook opened the business meeting with a moment's silence in memory of Mansel Cook, Velma Jacklin, Gary Cook, Murray Walsh, Wayne Cook, Jim Boak and Donald Johnson Appreciation of thanks was given to all members of the various committees. The sports were conducted by David and Veronica Cook of Ripley. All children went home with a nice prize. Bill Kelly of Seaforth was the eldest person present and "CJ" Cook son of Bradley and Leslie Cook of Parkhill, was the youngest. Muriel Bosman of Sault Stc. Marie came the farthest. Audrey Lewis of Wingham was the lucky winner of the jelly bean jar. All committees and officers agreed to hold the same offices for another term with Mabel Riley volunteering her name to be added to the lunch committee. The next reunion is to be held in the same place on July 21, 1996, providing the pork is available. Those attending were from Brus­ sels, Belgrave, Sault Ste.
