Distinguished diner
The Honourable Henry N.R. Jackman, Lieutenant
Governor of Ontario, left, was one of many people in
attendance for the delicious dinner preceding the 20th
anniversary retrospective celebration at Blyth Festival this
past Sunday. Also queueing up for dinner was Festival
founder and its first Artistic Director James Roy.
Seniors hold annual picnic
On June 27 the Blyth Swinging
Seniors gathered at the pavilion in
the Lions Park for their annual
picnic. At noon 23 seniors sat down
to a bountiful picnic dinner, after
which President John Hesselwood
conducted a short business
meeting.
Happy Birthday was sung to June
Peck, Gene Snell, Vera Badley and
Shirley and Les Rutledge for their
June birthdays and to Alvin Snell
for his birthday in July. John
delighted them with a few good
jokes and reminded all about going
to Huronlea on Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. to
entertain for the monthly residents'
birthday party.
The next meeting will be Sept. 28
and members are to bring a friend
if possible.
Several games and contests led
by Mary Walden, John Hessel
wood, Jean Nethery and Janet
Laurie were enjoyed. These were
Picnic Bingo and Name Bingo, a
contest naming parts of the body
using three letters, dropping clothes
pins in a milk bottle, guessing
number of candies in ajar and the
number of berries in a box, the
weight of two melons and guessing
the contents of a mystery pkg.
Members also played a dressup
game with men's underwear and
balloons.
Everyone enjoyed the games and
many won prizes. It was a very
pleasant day about 25 degrees C
and no rain until after the event
ended.
