Tickets are now on sale at The Centre's box office. Rainbow Stage Fiddler On The Roof will be directed by Alex Mustakas. Mr. Mustakas is well known for his work at Drayton, both as a director and actor. He has extensive professional credits across Canada including the Charlottetown Festival, (Winnipeg), CBC, CTV and in films. He has performed with Kitchener Waterloo Musical Productions on several occasions including the role of Motel the Tailer in Fiddler On The Roof in 1983 and, more recently, his lead role in the Music Man. A Tony Award winning musical, Fiddler On The Roof first opened in 1964 to critical acclaim. It brings to the stage the touching story of Tevye, a humble milkman from the Russian village of Anatevka. In Anatevka there is a tradition for everything - how to dress, what to eat, who to marry. Tevye has five marriageable daughters...and when he selects husbands for them, he struggles with, but must face, the changing traditions and customs of the younger generation. Fiddler On The Roof boasts some of the most beautiful music written for the stage including Sunrise, Sunset, If I Were A Rich Man, Matchmaker, Matchmaker and the all-time classic, Tradition. Kitchener Waterloo Musical Productions will be presenting five performances - Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17, 18, 19 at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19 and 20 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $29 and $22 for adults, and $16 for children 16 and under. Dames at Sea’ make waves at Kincardine Dames at Sea, the second production of the Bluewater Summer Playhouse, the only professional theatre in the Bruce Peninsula, stormed onstage Tuesday, July 26! Director John H. Goddard, Choreographer Bob Riddell, and Music Director Bruce McGregor put the touches on this musical full of songs, laughs and tap-dancing. Based on the clichds of scores of Hollywood movie musicals, this show of shows is a delight to the eye and ear and heart. The cast of talented Ontario performers burst onto the stage to amuse and thrill the audience. Performances run Tuesday, July 26 to Saturday, Aug. 13, every Tuesday to Saturday night (with matinees Thursday and Saturday at 4 p.m.). Tickets are available from Craft show at Falls By John Schedler Oliver Stone goes back to Vietnam for a third time with Heaven and Earth **** (Warner), a fact based account of the experiences of Le Ly Hayslip, a Vietnamese woman whose life spans the French and American occupations of her country. This film has been criticized by some with sacrificing subtlety for in your face horror, but I think director Stone has gotten a bum rap on this account. Heaven and Earth is an outstanding film, a rich epic full of heart and soul that left me, more than once, with a lump in my throat. The excellent cast includes Tommy Lee Jones, Dr. Haing S. Hgor, Joan Chen and newcomer Hiep Thi Le. (Rated R) Reserve The third annual Car Show and Arts and Crafts Sale will be held at Falls Reserve Conservation Area, Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Falls Reserve is al Benmillcr, just 10 minutes from Goderich. A good showing of craft vendors and classic autos is expected. A total of about 100 cars attended last year. Draw prizes will be presented to exhibitors and visitors daily. Throughout the event there will be activities for kids. Visitors arc also encouraged to take a walk on the park's scenic nature trail. A dance will be held Saturday evening from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. featuring DJ Rick Passmore. To gel to Falls Reserve take Highway 8 from Goderich to County Road 1, then follow the signs to the park. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau recently revived their Odd Couple routine for Grumpy Old Men, which turned out to be a pleasant and enjoyable little film. Now, much the same territory is covered in Wrestling Ernest Hemingway ***1/2 (Warner) the story of a retired Cuban barber (Robert Duvall) and a flamboyant ex-sea captain (Richard Harris) who become bickering friends during a hot summer in Florida. This is an enjoyable and poignant film with first rate performances from a fine cast that also includes Shirley MacLaine, Sandra Bullock and Piper Laurie. (Rated PG-13) Even though What's Ealing Gilbert Grape ****' (Paramount) is another movie that failed to create much excitement at the box office, hopefully audiences will discover its quirky charm on home video. Johnny Depp plays Gilbert, a young man from a small town who has put his dreams on hold as he spends his time looking after his 500 pound mother, two sisters and mentally challenged brother played by Leonard DiCaprio, who earned an Oscar nomination for his performance. While not exactly light entertainment this unpredictable and bittersweet film is highly enjoyable. Directed by Lasse Hallstrom, the cast also includes Juliette Lewis, Mary Stccnburgcn and Darlene Calcs. (Rated PG-13) Why anyone felt they needed to film Invasion of the Body Snatchers for a third time is beyond me; the 1956 original and 1978 remake were just fine and took this story about as far as possible. But, director Abel Ferrara seems to think otherwise so we have Body Snatchers ** (Warner) a tepid remake that moves the action to an army base as the pod people from outer space plot to take over the world. The cast features Gabrielle Anwar, Mcg Tilly and Forrest Whitaker. (Rated R) Xxr Message Comes Across Lfl/c’ Night With David Letterman alumnus Chris Elliott turns up in his first feature film Cabin Boy ** (Touchstone) as a spoiled rich kid who mistakenly boards a grimy fishing boat and is forced to work as a lowly swab. To tell the truth, Chris Elliott might be funny in three minute television skits, but as the star of an 86 minute movie the laughs arc few and far between.
